Time Concepts and Psychic Laws

(Granger): The will is the centre of the mind for all intents and purposes. It is the centre of all choice making. It is the centre from which all choices will be made in the future. We are looking into your concern about future choices; and your question: "Have future choices already been made, and if so, can they be changed, and how?" A good question; let us look into it. Understanding the future relative to events that have, or have not already happened in the psychic world needs some discussion. The answer we are looking for may very well be the answer we get. The method of looking may tend to give the wrong answer.

In the lives of the spirit plane where we live. for example, there is no such thing as past, present, and future. Past, present, and future are convenient arrangements for the physical universe, to allow events to get programmed through a material world or universe. There is a necessity for this serial process. There is no way all activities could be pushed through the material world in parallel. We need a way of sending events through the material universe without creating chaos. The way to do that is through a serial type of time; so that events flow in series rather than in parallel. Out of this arrangement comes the concept of past, present, and future. We think about things in the past, what is happening in the present, and what is going to happen in the future. It seldom occurs to the human mind in the physical world to think there may be some other way in which time and events could be arranged. You (the writer) have thought about it, quite often in fact, and for that reason we are allowed to help you think it through. ...Interesting what is happening here. You see, we are allowed to take your thoughts, ideas, and problems, work them out into a more usable and clearly defined pattern; then give them back to you. We are responsible for what we give back. If it misleads you deliberately into erroneous thinking, we are responsible and. as we said before, we must pay the piper. You see, therefore, we are very careful to get the precise ideas back to you.

Now on to time. "One thing at a time"! Time is a very complex idea: it has many aspects and concepts; it needs a lot of working with on your side to get a good feeling about our concept of time from this side. We think about time in several ways. First, it is serial when we need it to be that way, which we sometimes do; it is parallel when we want to see the "big picture" as you like to say on earth. It may be also a composite of these two, where we can see events taking place within our overall structure. We need to explain these concepts, each in turn. Serial time is very familiar to you on earth. It is the pattern by which you get up, go to work, come home, go out, go to bed, and so on. We use time that way also, and it is understood here as it is there. After all, we lived in earth-time in the first place. It is not just that simple however. Let us look inside serial time; what is really going on? Well, a whole series of events have taken place in the past. Because of those, and choices being made in the present, a whole lot of events will take place in the future ...all very neat and logical. However (always watch those "howevers") we need to look a little closer; maybe some other factors are at work here. What about this thing called "freedom-of-choice"? We choose which way we will go, what we will do, whom we will be with, and why we will be there.

The present gets mixed up with the choices to be made, and the decision of the mind ...the will enters. Now, a series of events, once set in motion, will continue in motion, at least in the psychic world, until they work through and come to a solution, a resolution, or an ending. We could state that as a psychic law (without any fear of misleading you).

Law Number one: An activity, once set in motion, continues in motion until it reaches a resolution. Psychic Law Number One, let's call it. Now we decide we don't want to continue this activity we started in the past, but our law number one won't let it stop, so what happens? Psychic Law Number One comes into conflict with our freedom of choice. These two concepts have inherent conflicts in that the goals of choice of the will may not be consistent with our Psychic Law Number One. We need a resolution. Paths of energy, once set in motion, must continue in motion until the resolution is worked out; yet, Freedom-of-Choice says, "I don't want to go on in this way. I want to do something else."

What happens in the psychic world is quite different from what happens in the physical world. In the physical world, the first action stops, the new action starts and takes over, serial time passes, and everything runs along a new serial path. In the psychic world, however, things are quite different. The first activity, having been set in motion, continues in motion. It does not stop; it will continue until it comes to a resolution or a logical ending. At the same time the newly chosen activity starts up. It starts a new channel of activity, a new pathway. It too, will continue in motion until a resolution is achieved. There may be, of course, other pathways started and they, as well, will continue in parallel with the first pathway or pattern. We have a very complex pattern of choices and pathways, all taking place at the same time. In the physical dimension, one of these several pathways is chosen to be followed. One only of the several choices may be set in motion, The others do not exist, to all physical intent and purposes.

This explanation gives the basis of the reason for parallel time. It may allow a number of activities and realities to be taking place in the same time frame. The saying, "one thing at a time" is true in the physical world only; it does not apply here. The concept we are describing is complex, and not everyone will want to explore its depths. And there is no particular reason for everyone to do so. We know you (the writer) are interested in different time concepts, so we give you this to entertain yourself with while waiting for someone else to come up with a better topic to think about. They probably won't. They will want to tell you about what happened at work, or next door, yesterdav. Rest assured, many things are happening at work and next door, of which people are very unaware.

The essence of time is the occurrence of events. Time has little or no meaning in a vacuum where nothing is happening. There would be no passage of time if there were no activity; one million years or one second would have the same meaning. We, therefore, come to Psychic Law Number Two: Where there is no movement there is no time. By "movement" here we mean any form of activity including thinking. This is a good and useful law in that it allows us to get around the idea of time.

Now we need to get a better understanding of parallel time for a lot of reasons. First, parallel time forms the basis for prophecy and predictions of the future in physical earth terms. Predictions of future events are not infallible, of course. They are not based on hocus-pocus either (unless they were conjured up for a price for someone gullible enough to pay for them). There is nothing particularly sacred or secret about predictions, and there is real value in predictions of future events. Man is entitled to be aware of the future to the extent of his ability to comprehend the concept. God, or anyone else, never said, "Thou Shalt Not Predict The Future." But to be useful it must be done in accord with established, natural, universal laws. These little laws we are creating for you are very useful, and with some effort on your part a considerable amount of success could be achieved in making predictions (by "your" we include anyone who is so inclined to make the effort). Making predictions is not, of course, the only reason for the need to understand parallel time.

The mind, containing the will, sends direction and instruction to the brain. It may, for example, tell the brain to take certain action relative to accepting certain data related to the future. It may tell the brain to accept certain decisions that are necessary to avoid an accident. It may tell the brain to drop certain data out of memory to a deeper level of recall to protect the person from anguish. It may tell the brain to move to other areas of thought for certain specific reasons. All of these activities proceed through the brain on a daily basis with no self-awareness taking place. The self-aware person is not so "self-aware" most of the time. We all move along our pathway, very much unaware of much of the internal activity of the mind and brain ...to say nothing of the body.

Here we need to present psychic law number three. This law is necessary to think about parallel time with any degree of real understanding. Let us state it here for the record. Psychic Law Number Three: Any thought-form, once established and set in motion, will continue to exist. So that we don't lose the reader's thought-form in the process of stating laws, let's explain this law and the need for it. Parallel time contains the concept of past, present, and future activity continuing all at the same time. In the spirit-plane of life, which is as real and identifiable as physical life, activity takes place in this parallel way. The past is still here, it doesn't go away; the present is here as well; and the future is here also, but in a slightly different way and, we might add. subject to change at the choice of the will. Nothing here is poured in concrete; we are at liberty to change even the past. Now let's explain some of these statements. (See Prophecy and Freedom of Choice.)
