Automatic Fare Collection Process
The Automatic Fare Collection process is responsible for the automatic collection of fares.

This implies that for the collection of fares, in case of Automatic Fare Collection, there will be no interaction between the customer and someone else. The only thing the customer needs to do is to put her/his card into or in front a “Validator” device.

The Transport Network Provider and/or the AFC Operator will define which products, can be used when, and for what kind of transport services (product definition & fare rules). These business rules will be distributed to all validation points (devices Validator or Gate reader). A Validation point can then be used for Automatic Fare Collection when a customer present a valid card.

Each AFC transaction will be registered and later on collected by the Transport Network Provider and/or the AFC Operator for processing (reports, statistics, …).
