ONE LOVE is GLAY's seventh album, if you include Hai To Daiyomondo. Full of experimentation and variety, and yet, this is one of GLAY's great albums. +And the cover's really nice, too!+
ALL STANDARD IS YOU (****)= I love this song. Even though I don't really like R & B, GLAY managed to pull this one of by making it sound elegant and quite rock-ish. Teru's vocals here are very good, and the last line +anata no shiawase negau nai hi wa nai...+ sticks in my head! :). I love the meaning to this song, and it's quite a good opening, though it lacks the quality of the opening's like MORE THAN LOVE and YOU MAY DREAM.
WET DREAM (***)= Whaaa-? Um, weird title? This song is definitely rock and not very pleasing to my parents ears. I like it when Teru sings awfully fast though. This is a good pick-up after the slow opening.
SHITTO (****)= SUGOI!!! This song has dance elements in it, but really great guitar riffs! This is such a great song, the tune, the guitars, Teru's singing and of course, the lyrics. I absolutely adore the lyrics. By the way, this was the first song I liked when I bought this album! A definite must-listen!
HIGHWAY NO.5 (****)= Another one of Jiro's hits. This song is just so likable, from the opening guitars to the sound of cars coming down the highway! Teru sings with tons of energy! Listen very carefully to the guitars during the bridge. It's got a great tune! When Teru yells during the chorus, it's really fun!
FIGHTING SPIRIT (*** 1/2)= I skipped this song all the time long time ago! I finally took the time to listen to it after seeing the video, and it really is quite a nice song. But why so slow? It doesn't really fit the title. Oh well. It's still a good listen.
Hitohira no Jiyuu (****)= Another relaxing song after three non-stop, fast-paced songs? You may think so but, for me? Not the case. Some GLAY songs can really overwhelm you. This has a kind of sad tune, and GLAY manage to pull of doing a reggae song! Whoa! You just have to like this song, no matter what. This is full of feelings and passion.
THINK ABOUT MY DAUGHTER (****)= Does Takuro have a daughter? Hmmm. I'd like to think of it as a song written by Takuro for Teru's daughter +if he has one, that is+ This song starts out quite carefully, with the piano in the background, then instruments start coming in during the bridge and there you have it! The chorus goes full-out, guitars, bass, drums and everything! This song is fast, energetic and memorable.
VIVA VIVA VIVA! (***1/2)= "I'm so high, I'm so high! I'm looking for high&high!". This is just a great song to rock to and to get "high" on. The way Teru sings the verses are just so sexy! +swoon!+. You gotta hear the guitars during the bridges. Turn it up, full volume. You'll really enjoy it! "just I say, carry on" is especially memorable! It's a song that grows on you, so if you find it annoying in the beginning, be patient. It'll sound cool soon.
Prize (***1/2)= Finally! A Hisashi song! +he's really popular among my sis and my friend!+. This is... different. Do you notice how he seems so mysterious and cool and yet he produces really cute and spunky songs? The verses here are absolutely fantastic! I love the effects of the bike, as well! The only thing that drives me nuts is the insanely dragging singing of who-knows-what in the background when it ends.
MERMAID (****)= A GLAY classic! I LOVED this song the instant I heard it. Shit! This song is just so cool. It can be put in the same category as Yuuwaku and Kanojo no "Modern". The guitar solo here is fantastic and Teru's performance is once again mind-blowing!! Another must-listen for rock fans out there.
Mister popcorn (***)= By the title, you can tell it's a Jiro song. I like the way they arranged it, unlike SOME PEOPLE! It was meant to be slow then extremely fast! It's really fun, but the tunes are really weird, and one's attention can tire fast.
Denki Iruka Kimyouna Shikou (****)= Long title, short song, great song. Like I said, Hisashi seems to do cutesy tunes meant for kids aged 5-12. We call this the "Nursery Rhyme" song. I like the carefree way Teru and kids +?+ sang "I'm singing in the rain it's my way, so funny, happy fine days!". It's a bit funny when Teru sings in English, but his English has improved greatly in Unity Roots & Family, Away.
STAY TUNED (****)= HAH! THIS is the song that turned Kougaiji into a true GLAY fan. Very energetic performance by GLAY, and I love the video! I don't see what is so wrong with this song. It's got a happy tune and will pick anyone up. Great song!
Kimi ga Mitsumeta Umi (****)= I agreed with some people when they said this was one of the two songs that were amnesiatic. Well, guess what? Now I totally disagree! This song is great! It starts of beautifully, +not unlike Winter, Again+ and I love the bass during the verses. Another thing to listen out for is when Teru sings with only the guitar in the background. It gives a great effect. This song is also very American, but the beginning sounds kinda Chinese-y.
Muyuubyou (****)= Whoa. I didn't like this song at first, then I found myself singing along with Teru in the second verse. These are the two underrated songs of the album. It was a great idea to get the female singer to add to the essence of the song. Plus, to let my mom know the title of this song, I'll shout out, "Mong Yu PING!"
I really like the end where Teru sings, "Sono te de uketomete...". It's really nice.
Chritmas Ring (***1/2)= Whoa. A slow, haunting melody. Makes me uncomfortable when GLAY do these songs and include church instruments, so imagine my discomfort while listening to Unity. Anyway, this isn't such a bad song and deserves being mentioned for the effort they put in to make this song. The guitars go mad at the end, and always drive my sis mad. +snicker+.
GLOBAL COMMUNICATION (****)= What is WRONG with you PEOPLE? This song is really, really great. No matter where I go, people say this song is not that good. Even Kougaiji says so! Love the way Teru goes "Whoo yeah!". I also like the sincere way they try to promote "GLOBAL COMMUNICATION". They've always been nice guys, and never really push themselves to be in the spotlight even if they could, unlike some singers. Guys, I wish you would commercialize a bit more!!!
ALL STANDARD IS YOU~one love reprise~ (***1/2)= Why? Well, it's just a reprise and the computer voice is just too weird. So, we come to the end of ONE LOVE!!!
