UNITY ROOTS & FAMILY, AWAY

Unity is GLAY's eighth album. This is definitely very different from BEAT OUT!. Be ready for the worst GLAY criticism on this site.

We All Feel His Strength Of Tender (*) = What kind of opening is this? ALL STANDARD IS YOU was mellow enough. Whatever happened to openings that started with a bang? The opening draaags on and it should have been accompanied with a video tape, showing us scenery or something. WHAT IS WITH THAT GOSPELLER? I always liked the idea that Teru was the sole voice, with the exception of the others background singing, but this? Hey, lady, are you GLAY's second vocalist?

Mata kokode aimashou (****) = Ahhh! Now this is the song! This song sticks out like a sore humb in this album, sounding pop, and yet upbeat with a lot of guitar riffs and great sounding tunes. This is almost definitely the best song in this album and deserves special mention. +I like the meaning too!+

girlish MOON (****) = I always thought this song sounded slighty better than the others. I only liked this song after Kougaiji persuaded me to listen to Unity again. It's a really nice song with a sad, passionate feeling. I really like the way Teru sings here. Esp. during the bridge part.

WAY OF DIFFERENCE (****) = I bought the single for this one. I really like that version. The album version is alright as well. This song gives me a vision of winter, unlike Kougaiji. The bass is very prominent during the verses and the guitar solo literally screeches in your ear. I really like the slow bit, after the guitar solo. Sounds really beautiful.

Koukai (****) = This song starts out real well, and I love the verses. It's got a rock-pop element to it, and does not have gospellers in it. I have a feeling they altered Teru's voice to make it sound smoother during the opening verse, but it suits it quite well, and Teru's voice goes back to normal during the chorus! :)

Yuruginai Monotachi (**1/2) = Starting here, the songs start going down. What is with this song? It's so slow and kinda monotonous. It's as if after Koukai, Takuro ran outta steam. Hmmm...

Natsu no Kanata e (****) = Oooh! A "windy" song! This reminds me of green fields and paints a picture of the sun shining in between two dark shadowy hills and an empty road. For me, of course. It's just that in the beginning, Teru's voice is drowned out by background singers. My mother and sister absolutely love this song. Kinda church-ish. It's got lovely acoustic guitars and nice vocal effects. It's a good thing they made this short, otherwise it would have been monotonous and boring.

neverland (***1/2) = This song is boring. So why did I give it ***1/2? Well, I like the piano intro and piano solos. This song actually makes me think : What does Jiro do in most songs? I strain my ears to make out the bass, but hear none in certain songs. This song is quite good while going for a drive. Another plus point is that Teru's carries it quite well. I love it when he goes "doo do doo do".

Karerano Holy X'mas (**) = Whaa-? The intro is good enough, but it gets real boring and I could hardly stay awake by this time. Plus, it makes me feel uncomfortable. The whole feel of this song is just so "preachy". It makes me wonder...

Father & Son (***1/2)= When I heard this song, I was quite happy. It really is quite nice and has a cheerful tone to it. I imagine the sun shining on my face and the good old days when I was little.

Sotsugyou Made Ato Sukoshi (***) = This song is actually not bad, just not my taste. Very slow and soothing. I dunno. Not really much to say 'bout this song. What I really like is when he says "How are you feeling? Daijobou?"

FRIEND OF MINE (**) = "I say hello, you say goodbye". Well, good! Say sayonara to this song. The verses were okay but at the end? WHO is that woman screaming in the background? She has great vocals, but shouldn't the limelight be given to GLAY members? Urgh. This is really gospel. GLAY! Didn't you say you guys are a rock-pop band? Not an R & B band??

ALL STANDARD IS YOU~end role~(1/2) = Oh this is great. This is great. +To all rap fans, no offense+. I have never liked rap. No. This should explain why I dislike this song. Why, oh why, did they have to destroy the elegance of this song by putting in a rapper? I loved it when Teru sang his heart out. it was perfect by then!!! This goes to show GLAY should not go into rap. Any other genre but THAT! </body> </html>
