"are my eyes red? yeah? i think i've got anthrax." a friend in my calculus class said that. of course i laughed, but really, the joke is OLD. it's not just even that it's getting old, but it's already old. i mean, ok~ 3 big corporations were tested & found positive for anthrax, but you know, media hypes everything up. after talking about it with GA paul & NY jen, i came to the realization that anthrax is not that big of a deal. i mean, if course it's something to worry about, but it's not as big a deal as the media really makes it out to be. i guess (and i didn't come up with this on my own. when do i ever come up with stuff like this on my own??) the real scare is the though of bio-terrorism...especially w/the thought of smallpox coming into the picture.
some samples of smallpox had been missing a while ago, and could have possible gotten intot he wrong hands. otherwise, why would they be missing, right? so...since we have no cure or immunization for smallpox, it would have devastating effects. ok. what i really don't get is this: why do we keep samples of dangerous viruses/diseases? to study them?? so much could go wrong in experiments, even in a controlled laboratory. why?: cuz we're human! we're imperfect. in fact, we're more likely to make mistakes than not to. it's inevitable. at least that's what i think.
i guess it's not a big deal to make light of certain situations. like th eoccasional joke about anthrax, right? but...i hear it everyday. no joke. i wish i were exaggerating. but seriously, COME ON! the joke is DEAD. let's stop. my history teacher even said something about how she's coming down with something and she hopes it's not anthrax. HA. HA. HA. does my laugh seem convincing? it's not supposed to.
