What/Who

Ever wonder how Dragonball Z got started? Don't even know what Dragonball is? If so, this is the page for you.

Dragonball is a Japanese anime series that was first published as a weekly comic book called Shonen Jump. Based on a collection of old Chinese monkey legends. Within time this adventure with comedic elements would become one of the worlds most popular anime series ever.

Aimed at a general audience, the phenomenon would help scetch the idea of Japanese animation world wide. Japan would receive its first glimpse of Dragonball as it was published as a manga in December of 1984. The idea of an adventurous little boy would catch the eyes of many, as this series would rise to become one of the top selling titles.

After the series continuing growth, Dragonball would bounce from the simple pages of a comic book and become an animated television series. The first episode would air on the 26th of February 1986. The original concept of Dragonball was about a hero called Son Goku and his continuing search for all seven dragonballs, which would grant the owner of all seven dragonball balls a single wish.

The Dragonball series would grow and undoubtedly change introducing the elements of Martial Arts and other key characters. The popularity would rise even further, as it started into its second series, known as Dragonball Z. After 291 episodes, Akira Toriyama would leave the world of Dragonball behind. Yet, the series continued on without him in Dragonball GT. With the long-standing success of the overall series, DBGT would provide its fans the last of Dragonball. But it is the fans today with the aide of companies such as FUNImation and Viz Comics, which provide the continuing growth and release of the series.
