                  extended by javax.swing.JFrame
                      extended by GameClient
All Implemented Interfaces:
java.awt.event.ActionListener, java.awt.image.ImageObserver, java.awt.MenuContainer, java.io.Serializable, java.lang.Runnable, java.util.EventListener, javax.accessibility.Accessible, javax.swing.RootPaneContainer, javax.swing.WindowConstants
Direct Known Subclasses:
OthelloClient

public abstract class GameClient
extends javax.swing.JFrame
implements java.awt.event.ActionListener, java.lang.Runnable

Used for creating game clients. Each client that connects will have a GameClient type. Depending on the game, certain abstract functions must be furhter definied by the subclass. Client fuctions by processing user clicks to the gameboard and sending/receiving information from the server.

Constructor Detail

GameClient

public GameClient(java.lang.String nameOfGame,
                  PlayerProfile pp)
This constructor will set up the GUI and connect to the server. Will also pass in the type of board being used depending on the game being played.

Method Detail

setPlayer

public void setPlayer(PlayerProfile pp)
Sets the player to the player that logged in.

Parameters:
pp -

actionPerformed

public void actionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent ae)
This method handles user button clicks on the gameboard. All board clicks are sent to the server using object serialization. The action command for each button provides the row & column of the gameboard represented by that button.

Specified by:
actionPerformed in interface java.awt.event.ActionListener

connect

public void connect()
This method connects to the GameServer and sets up all I/O streams to send and get information.

start

public abstract void start()
This method initializes the runner Thread, specifying that the run method to use for the new Thread will be found inside this class.

run

public abstract void run()
This method listens for objects sent by the server. Depending on the type of object sent, as specified by the GameNetworkObject, this program will take different actions.

Specified by:
run in interface java.lang.Runnable

setupGUI

public abstract void setupGUI()
This method constructs all buttons on the board and lays them out using a specified layout. All listeners are also registered for these buttons.

updateBoard

public abstract void updateBoard(GameBoard updatedBoard)
This method takes a GameBoard parameter and uses it to update this class data and GUI representation of the board. Should include icons within the funtion to represent the pieces

Parameters:
updatedBoard - - the new board to use, presumably it would have been sent by the server. Note that this client/server architecture uses a thin server, whereby all game decisions are made by the server.

updateTimer

public abstract void updateTimer(GameTimer newTime)
