The Honour

Within the pages of Gor novels there is much concerning the human condition. Honour is there, but no more than in any other work of fiction, and if anything what is considered honourable within the Gorean culture is very different to our own notion of what is honourable. Certainly kindness and consideration are not too prevalent. Gorean men will raid and steal, rape and pillage, and trick, and use all kinds of duplicity and chicanery to outdo their enemies or to trick a haughty free woman into slavery. Perhaps it would be useful to include a list of some of the atrocities that are described in the books. When I say atrocity perhaps I should point out that they seem atrocious to me, steeped as I am in the culture in which I was raised. To the Fictional Gorean, these things are not atrocious at all, but the way they have arranged their society. The Gorean novels are not all about sex and bondage with a bit of fighting thrown in for the boys. On Gor slaves are without citizenship, they are animals, and there are many, many depiction’s of horrendous cruelty. Killing or maiming a slave is not dishonourable conduct to Goreans, because slaves are property, their only purpose is to please, and if they do not, then a displeased man can do with her what he wishes. Economically it would seem more sensible to sell her, but sometimes a bit of killing or maiming seems to suit the fictional Gorean better. If this is ever mentioned to Lifestylers, at once a great barrage of argument will follow of how Gorean men are not cruel. There is a quote. You will see this posted everywhere.

"Perhaps it should only be added that the Gorean master, though often strict, is seldom cruel. The girl knows, if she pleases him, her lot will be an easy one. She will almost never encounter sadism or wanton cruelty, for the psychological environment that tends to breed these diseases is largely absent on Gor. this does not mean that she will not expect to be beaten if she disobeys, or fails to please her Master."

It appears that this quote is what most slaves believe is what Gorean Masters are all about. If, however they ever bothered to actually open one of these novels and read it, they will find beside the many cruelties a distinct lack of nurturing of the slaves. Only those who are lucky enough to find a man who fancies her will be nurtured, and then only as long as she remains of interest.
