Lord Kaos was easily Australia's best and most well known symphonic black metal band for several years. The style of their one and only album is quite similar to that currently popularised by the likes of Dimmu Borgir, but Lord Kaos was playing it earlier. Indeed it could hardly be coincidence alone that Dimmu Borgir would adapt the style, as Astennu went on to become their guitarist for several years after being fired from Lord Kaos. Thorns of Impurity sold strongly overseas and led to considerable interest from the Scandinavian quarter. Astennu went to Norway and endeavoured to have the rest of the band follow, but the remaining members resisted, preferring to remain in Australia, and activities were frozen until a new line-up could be built. Astennu joined Dimmu Borgir in 1997 and has also worked with Covenant and Nocturnal Breed as well as his own project Carpe Tenebrum. He is now a member of Infernal Method. After his departure, the Lord Kaos personnel history became particularly unstable with several to-ings and fro-ings but settled down reasonably comfortably for a short time with a line-up featuring Jamie Marsh (Lord of Night Summoning), Frank Munoz (guitar), Ali (bass), Nygil (drums), Darael (guitar) and Shaun (keys). The band supported Cradle of Filth in late 1997 with this line-up and began work on the long overdue second album. Incubus rejoined the band briefly after the departure of Ali and Munoz in mid 1999. Lord Kaos' personnel has never been very stable and chronicling the changes is no easy task. Their Metal for the Brain 2000 line-up included Beau Dyer from Elysium on bass and Yuri Ward and Glen Blazejak from Psychrist on guitar and drums. Lord Kaos cancelled two key performances during 2001, including Metal for the Brain, and it came as no surprise when the band announced it had split up in December. Jamie Marsh is also a member of Elysium.
