ELEVENTH GENERATION

1152. Lt. Timothy PHELPS *^{(288) (289)(290)} was born on 1 Sep 1639 in Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. He died in 1719 in Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. Timothy and his family resided in Windsor, Connecticut, in the home built by his father and on land his father purchased from the Indians . In 1607 he served in Queen Anne's War. He was made freeman in May 1664. 1709 he received a commission as Lieutenant by the General Court and served in Capt. Matthew Allyn's Company, Col. William Whiting's regiment. Timothy's will , dated 2 May 1717, mentions all his children, except Mary who died young, and grandson Samuel Filer, son of his daughter Abigail.

He was married to Mary GRISWOLD * on 19 Mar 1661. "History of Simsbury" CT., indicates marriage occured in May, not March.

1153. Mary GRISWOLD * ⁽²⁹¹⁾ was born before 13 Oct 1644 in Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. Mary was baptised on 13 October 1644, in Windsor, CT., the daughter of Edward Griswald (b.5 Oct 1644, d.1719), and (?) of Killingworth, CT. Children were:

ii. Joseph PHELPS⁽²⁹²⁾ was born on 27 Sep 1666 in Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. He died on 30 Aug 1716 in Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. Joseph married 18 November 1686, Sarah Hosford (b.27 Sept 1666, daughter of John and Phillury (Thrall) Hosford). Joseph and Sarah's children were: Sarah, b.14 Aug 1687; Mary, b.8 June 1689, m.Matthew Griswold; Joseph, b.16 Mar 1692, m.Susannah Eno; Abigail, b.15 Oct 1693; Edward, b.1698; Benoni, b.24 June 1699; and John, b.20 Sept 1701; Mary, b.1703; Abel, b.abt 1705: Ichabod, b.1707.

Joseph owned large tracts of land in Hebron. One deed describes him as a "weaver". His father-in-law also owned considerable property and left his daughter 100 pounds in his will. Joseph' will was dated 23 August 1716, appears in the Hartford Probate Records, Vol. 9, and names his wife exectrix. It also names his 10 children.
iii. William PHELPS was born on 4 Feb 1668 in Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. William married 1st, Abigail Mudge (d.24 April 1705), 7 Dec 1699, , and 2nd, Ruth Barber, 18 April 1706.
iv. Cornelius PHELPS was born on 26 Apr 1671 in Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. Cornelius married Sarah Mansfield, 2 Nov 1704.
v. Mary PHELPS was born on 14 Aug 1673 in Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. She died on 23 Mar 1690 in Windsor, Hartford Co., CT.
vi. Samuel PHELPS was born on 29 Jan 1675 in Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. Samuel married Abigail Eno, 3 April 1707.
vii. Nathaniel PHELPS was born on 27 Jan 1677 in Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. Nathaniel was baptised on 13 January 1677. He married 1st, Hannah Bissell, 28 March 1700, and relocated to Hebron. He married 2nd, Abigail Pinney.
viii. Sarah PHELPS was born on 27 Dec 1679 in Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. Sarah married David Marshall of Hebron, CT, and died without bearing any children.
ix. Abigail PHELPS was born on 5 Jun 1682 in Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. Abigail married Samuel Filer or Samuel Marshall, 12 July 1706.
x. Hannah PHELPS was born on 4 Aug 1684 in Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. Hannah (2) was baptised 16 August 1684. She married Thomas Phelps.
xi. Anna PHELPS⁽²⁹³⁾ was born on 2 Oct 1686 in Hebron, Tolland Co., CT. She died on 24 Jan 1767 in Hebron, Tolland Co., CT. Anna married 13 January 1707, David Porter (b.1685), they had 8 children between 1708 and 1724.
xii. Martha PHELPS was born on 12 Nov 1688 in Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. Martha married Corporal Samuel Holcomb, 13 October 1709.
