The Hare once again started the day by boasting to the forest animals about his swift speed. "I have yet to be beaten," he said. "Are there any animals foolish enough to challege me to a race today?"

Smug about the silence, the Hare continued to boast, "No one dares to race me, for I am the fastest animal in all the land."

"I will race you," a quiet voice replied from the crowd.

 
"You, Tortoise?" The Hare laughed. "You are so slow, I could dance around you the whole way."
"We will see," the Tortoise said as the other animals started devising a race course...
