Over the last two decades, Gram-Mangal has engaged itself in a multitude of activities, at Dabhon, Aine, and Rankol, three villages near the Maharashtra-Gujarat border (That's why the name "Gram-Mangal", meaning "the prosperity of a village"). Some of the initial activities are:
-
The construction of tube-wells in 22 ‘pada’s (hamlets)
-
Establishing and running a medical center
-
An agricultural farm
-
nurseries
-
poultries
-
dairies
-
experiments in vermiculture
However, GM's principal thrust continues to be on Education. In the initial years, Gram-Mangal experimented with a total educational drive, encompassing all age-groups through adult literacy programs, night schools, primary schools, pre-schools and creches. Now, it has concentrated on the largely ignored field of pre-school and primary child education, also referred to as Early Childhood Education. This work has, now, crossed the boundary between rural and urban areas, and has spread across the state of Maharashtra.
