Nearly everything I have seen which links him to his father only names this person Peter. But it seems be be the same person as George Peter. (The age on the census matches, named relationships to other Gilchrist family members, etc.). Also, papers of Elisha Challen Scott (as viewed and possessed by Trudy Morrison Heiman) had this person down as George Peter. I found this out after I came to the same conclusion independently. Since many of the female Gilchrists took on an extra first name, e.g. Mary Jane for Jane, why couldn't this Peter take on George as extra 1st name?
