Introducing Granville Resource Centre
Granville is a resource centre designed to support disabled people in the Erewash Borough area of Derbyshire. The service aims to give disabled people opportunities to meet others, socialise and join in leisure and educational activities. Our service also gives regular carers a break.
We support people with all kinds of disabilities. Although we are best known for our work with physically disabled people we support people with sensory impairments, through assistance with large print, special support workers, training, and access to appropriate organisations. Our service is available to people who live alone and those who live with carers, and we cater for people between the ages of 16 and 65.

What to expect at Granville
Granville is a lively centre offering a wide range of activities to meet individual needs and interests. Attendance is flexible some people drop in for just one day, others make use of the centre for up to five days a week. Your key-worker will assist you to plan a programme of activities and meet you on a regular basis to offer support.
Our programme of activities is varied and we are always willing to try out new ones to meet service users’ interests. You can do woodwork, crafts, develop computer skills, horse and cart riding aromatherapy or join our fitness group. Through our links with local adult education centres! we can support all kinds of educational activities. And if you just want to relax with your friends, you can do that too.
|
|
We also have our own rehabilitation kitchen for service users to move towards independent living through an organised programme of cooking activities.
Our service is based in the centre of Long Eaton and we provide transport for those who need it. The centre is open Monday to Friday from 9 am to 4 pm and lunch is provided. On several days in the week we run outreach groups which may offer a more local service for some service users.
Meet the staff
Our staff are all trained to meet the needs of disabled people and their work is constantly reviewed to ensure they provide the highest level of support. Our staff come from a variety of backgrounds and are chosen for their reliability, caring qualities and practical abilities.
Have your say
Leonard Cheshire is committed to service user empowerment. We encourage everyone to take an active role in the running of Day Services. You can join the Clients Committee at Granville and Derbyshire Day Services Local Committee where your views and opinions will help shape the service for the future.

Getting out and about
If you like visiting places of interest or enjoying a leisurely pub lunch then take advantage of the wide variety of trips and outings that we organise.
|
Using our One to One Support
In response to service users requests, we now offer our services to people who do not wish to attend the centre. If you want to use this service you need to be referred to us from Social Services, together we will work out a service plan to meet your needs and support you to achieve your goals. |
|
Getting involved
We encourage all service users to take an active interest in the running of the centre. You will have an opportunity to influence this work through the clients committee which is made up of service users and staff.
Ensuring quality
With your help we can make sure the service is of the highest quality at all times, If you wish to make a comment or complaint, copies of the complaints procedure are available from the service manager.
How you can support us
|
If you would like to support the work of the centre, we welcome both volunteers and donations. We have many local friends and supporters and they play a vital role in the life of the service. Some help by driving the mini-bus or taking service users shopping, for example. Others help to raise funds — fetes, raffles, sponsored events, car boot sales are all ways in which the local community gets involved.

Says Julie (left) "I do music and movement on Monday mornings with service users. I don't mind giving up a few hours a week. I enjoy coming to Granville, it's very rewarding. I am going to be looking into swimming therapy as a new outreach for a future service."
