GREAT ORME BADMINTON CLUB
Established 1999
The Great Orme Badminton Club was formed in September 1999 and plays on a Tuesday and Thursday (7.00pm till approx 11.00pm) at the North Wales Badminton Centre, Bryn Estyn, off Albert Drive, Deganwy, Conwy, N.Wales, UK.
The club is
open to new members, to members of existing clubs and to casual
users. The club is aimed at giving all the players the chance to
play the badminton that they want, whether that be social or
competitive. It will also give you the chance to play with or
against different players, rather than playing solely the players
in your group/club.
For the competitive player we have two teams entered into the Conwy County Badminton League. The G.O.B.C league team won the Conwy County League Division 3 in 2001 (played 10 won 10). The club also arranges a series of matches against clubs from outside the Conwy County, having played teams from Crewe, Blaenau Ffestiniog,Walsall, Flint, Deeside, Liverpool and North Staffs over previous years.
On joining the club, all players are issued with a programme of events detailing suitable tournaments and club events. In charge of coaching at the club is the G.O.B.C Chairman Neil Cottrill Bsc (Hons). Neil is a Welsh Badminton Union Coach and Coach Tutor.
Neil (pic left)is a current Wales and former English
International player. His many achievements include Member of the
1996 British Olympic Badminton Squad, 1999 Welsh World Cup Team
and 2000 Welsh European Team.Welsh National Champion in Men's
Doubles 1999, 2000, 2001.Welsh National Champion in Mixed Doubles
2001. Former World Ranked 12th in Men's Doubles (1996). Neil is
also a graduate in Sports Science from Loughborough University.
Neil recieved the '2001 Welsh Badminton Coach of the Year Award'.

JUNIOR
SECTION
The club also runs a
highly successful junior section from 5.00pm to 7.00pm on a
Tuesday under the guidance of Neil Cottrill and Joe Hill.
Membership of this junior club also allows you to play on a
Thursday day night from 5.00pm to 7.00pm.The junior sessions are
predominantly structured games with coaching for those who want
it. Both
Tuesday and Thursday clubs run a monthly singles 'ladder'
competition and a fortnightly club team event. We also enter the
Conwy County Inter Club Team competition.. In the 2000/2001
season the club teams won the U-11, U-13, U-15 (1st team) and
U-17 (1st team) and were runners-up in the U-15 (2nd team) and
U-17 (2nd team) age groups.
