The Trap!

Decline

If the group decides that they don't want to follow Campbell, he will walk off whistling "Yankee Doodle Dandy" and disappear around a corner. Any attempt to follow him will be in vain.

After losing track of Campbell, (assuming the group tries to follow him) the group will find a road heading West. The group decides that West would be the best direction to travel, and set off that way. About 3/4 of a kilometer outside of town, just when the town disappears from sight behind trees, the group stumbles into a checkpoint. Either the point man will stumble into it, or if the party doesn't have a point man, the group as a whole will find the checkpoint.

About a dozen men, all clad in Polish military uniforms will get the drop on the group. They will call out in Polish at first, and then in broken English, to have the party put their weapons to the ground. Any characters attempting a quick scout of the situation will notice at least 14 soldiers (with a good Observation roll) in well prepared positions. There is also a Light Machine gun the Polish have set up, and can quite easily spray greivous harm on the group if they decide to make a fight of it.

If the group obliges, and drops their weapons, a Polish Sergeant will move towards them, and ask them who they are and where they are from. He will be cautious, and not get too close to any of the team, keeping his AK-74 levelled at them the whole time. If the group answers quickly and honestly that they are Americans, or NATO, then another figure will appear from a concealed location to the groups right. If the group gives lame excuses as to who they are, the figure will still appear, but will be escorted by three more armed Polish soldiers. Either way, the man will approach the group and state in a gravelly American voice, "Well, gentlemen, this is your lucky day. You get to join us in an attempt to save the front, or you can die right here. What'll it be?"

The man is slender and unshaven. He is wearing BDUs and has a side-arm. He's tall, about 6 feet and an inch, and has dark brown, almost black, eyes, giving him an eerie look. He speaks obvious American, and has a rough, gravelly voice, that possesses and edge to it that can grind metal. He always wears a drab green baseball cap over his bushy brown hair, and he always looks like he never gets any sleep.

If the group takes offense at his comment, and doesn't want to answer, or demands to know who he is, he will respond, "Name's Freemont. CIA. Now you get to either be heroes or worm bait, the choice is yours. If you take too long, I'll let the Sergeant here decide for you," he says, motioning to the Polish sergeant who still has his rifle levelled at the group.

If the group agrees, they live, and are instructed to follow him. Freemont tells them to leave their weapons behind, and that they will be collected and brought to them when they check out. If they don't agree, make the slaughter short and to the point. There will be no survivors.

You are led into the woods, about another half a kilometer to where a moderately sized camp of tents is located. When the group arrives in the camp, they will notice about another 20 or so Polish soldiers about the area. Freemont leads you to a 10-man tent where he instucts you to stay until notified. He gets each of your names, and then turns to leave. Before stepping outside the tent, he mentions. "Don't bother trying to escape. You wouldn't get far. If your story checks out, then you have nothing to worry about. I'll be back in about 15 minutes."

With that, he leaves. Two guards are left at the door of the tent, and the group can see quite a few other soldiers about the area. It is best that they wait. In 15 minutes, Freemont does return, and tells them that they all check out. (If any are rogue Soviet soldiers, he'll still be suspicous of them, and ask the Americans in the group if they can be trusted.) He informs them that their equipment is in another tent, and that they can pick it up at any time. He asks the leaders of the group if they could follow him.

Freemont takes the group leaders to his main tent, where there is a table with papers strewn across it. He breaks right into his briefing. "We have got a problem, gentlemen. A Soviet General Boris Stehnkov has terminated his contract with the main Soviet headquarters and is now stockpiling chemical weapons for use on Allied troop concentrations. He has a sizable amount of ordnance, but his method of delivery is unknown. We've got to get into his base, shut down his operation , and eliminate him. You will work with my men and I on acquiring new information and then attacking his headquarters. Any information that you gain on his operations will be reported directly to me. For now, get settled in here, and get some rest. Tent 3 is open for your use. Have your men here at 0500 tomorrow for briefing."
