The school council

Residents of Waterloo Region interested in offering children and adults the opportunity to study the German language and culture founded the German Language School Concordia.

The school has grown substantially and is now operated in cooperation with the Waterloo Region District School Board.

The students as well as their parents or guardians are the major stakeholders in the operation of the school. Student activities, classroom and library materials, crafts, celebrations (Nikolaus and Fastnacht), enrichment programs, Deutsch Diplom I and II, foreign study scholarships, professional development for teachers, curriculum development, teachers aides and class sizes are aspects of these operations that have direct impact on the learning outcomes for the students.

The school has grown and flourished due to the influence of the stakeholders in the operation through the School Council.

The School Council consists of 12 volunteers elected by the community of parents/guardians of the students in the school.

Any parent/guardian of a student attending the school may stand for election to the School Council. The School Council holds 3 General Meetings per school year, inviting all parents/guardians to attend by letter sent with the students. Anyone interested in election to the School Council should attend a General Meeting to obtain more information about nominations and elections.

The School Council administers the use of the funds collected from registrations or donations and works with the principal to address the needs of the students and the school. The School Council also coordinates many of activities for the school performed by volunteers such as networking with other German Schools throughout Canada, advertising for new students (Leisure Times, Christkindl Markt, Brochures, etc.), celebrations (Nikolaus and Fastnacht) and crafts.

Contact the School Council through the Principal or the office staff of the German Language School Concordia.

Best Regards,
John Vieth
President
