          Project IMPACT

Project I.M.P.A.C.T (Individuals Making Progress Across Communities Together) is comprised of two specialized areas of opportunity. These areas are elected by the National Convention, and are effective for a two-year period. All members should perform service within these categories, so the entire organization is working toward these common efforts.

The categories are broad - i.e., hunger, disabilities, safety, senior citizens, etc. This generalization allows each chapter, or individual member, to create projects around a number of organizations which pertain to the category chosen for concentration.

An example of projects for hunger may be creating an awareness of the plight of the population, or promoting the education of nutritional needs. Members are free to be creative in their choice of projects and methods, in order to impact the chosen area.

The Project IMPACT areas for the 2003-2005 biennium are:

          • Advocacy for people with Disablities
          • Silent Tears for Abuse, Incest and Rape (S.T.A.I.R.)

In addition to Project IMPACT area suggestions and individual chapter projects, Gamma Sigma Sigma, as an organization, partners with charitable organizations to provide a combined, concentrated level of service to the nation. These National Partners are many, though the longest standing partnership is with the national March of Dimes. Chapters/Members participating in special emphasis projects are given recognition for their service through award competitions and certificate presentations. Some of these special partnerships are with:

          • March of Dimes
          • Mothers Against Drunk Driving (M.A.D.D.)
          • American Red Cross
          • American Cancer Society

Projects Done by the Cherry Blossom Alumnae Colony

The Cherry Blossom Alumnae colony has worked on Project IMPACT through the following organizations:

          • The Arlington Community Temporary Shelter (TACTS)
          • Stop Child Abuse Now (SCAN) of Northern Virginia
          • Kids Enjoy Exercise Now (KEEN)
          • The Maryland Jubilee Association

In addition, we have also volunteered for the Cherry Blossom 10 Mile Run, Love Letters Inc., The GW Classic 5K/10Mile Run, and the Maryland Early Head Start/Lourie Center.

Many of us do service outside the colony, including working for the Rape Abuse Incest National Network (R.A.I.N.N.), Salvation Army, and Sterling House Assisted Living.

If you would like more information on our service program or would like to participate in an event with us, please email Phyllis, our Vice President of Service.
