Growing pansies without a greenhouse can be tricky but our timing is good.

Pansies

As a small tribute:
Our pansies were scheduled to be air freighted on Tuesday Sept. 11.  Due to the tragic events that morning they were grounded.  But on Friday the 14th, we were very surprised to see them delivered--only 2 days late.  It was a very small order-only one box  but because America doesn't stay down, even Girl Scout pansies were delivered.  American business was back.

Pansies are one of the few flowers that can live through most of our winters. You can enjoy not only beautiful fall color but if you provide cover during extreme cold weather, they can survive the winter and bloom again in the early spring.

Pansies need cool nights and cool soil temperatures. Due to the heat in September this year, our experts recommend you wait to plant them until the second half of October which is past the normal October 1st planting date. This will allow soil temperatures to fall.

The top quality seedling plants come from Ball Seed Co. in California and we grow them to maturity.  They require about four weeks of cool nights and warm sunny days.  They are also heavy feeders.  Since we have no greenhouse, we at the mercy of Oklahoma weather.

Yellow with Blotch

A blotch is in the center and is usually darker.  It makes it almost look like a face painted in the center.
