November 2005 – September 2006
The story of my visit with Girl Scout Troop 1297 in Lake
in the Hills, IL in the United States of America
November 28, 2005 –- I arrived today in Lake in the Hills, IL ,
I can’t wait for Saturday when they are going Caroling for Canned Goods to
donate to the local food pantry. I
am so excited that I get to meet a lot of new girls!
I
had just arrived in
December
3, 2005 -–11 of the girls from Troop 1297 and 3 leaders went caroling for
canned goods. It was a
perfect night to go caroling! It was
just freezing out and SNOWING big huge wet flakes that were very fun to
throw snowballs, make snowangels and go sliding on.
We got lots of donations for the local food pantry.
And then we came back to Ms. Sandy’s house and had hot chocolate. YUM!
The
girls are practicing before caroling. I
am with Natalie, Heather and Cassie.
It
was snowing HUGE, WET flakes that show up as dots on this picture of us in front
of one of the houses we caroled at.
Here
is the caroling patch that was earned.
December
6, 2005 –- The girls did the “Looking Your Best” badge.
Jenny and Jennifer worked getting this badge ready to present tonight and
they did a great job. They got
donations of the hotel sized hygiene items and each girl got soap, shampoo,
conditioner and toothpaste and toothbrush. They
made a healthy snack for the girls to each.
Here
is the Looking Your Best badge that we earned that night.
The
girls and I are doing the flag ceremony at the beginning of the meeting.
Allie, Haley, Meghan, Kelsey, Jennifer, Natalie, Courtney, Jenny and
Bailey are here.
December 19, 2005 to December 20, 2005 –- Wow! Tons of fun!
The girls had a Christmas party sleepover and we learned about selling
cookies. We talked about what we
would use the money for (Puppet Opera and Kohls Children’s museum are 2
things) and set goals for how many boxes we were going to try to sell.
We also talked about safety.
The
girls also got their badges tonight that they earned this year.
They had Secret Santa gifts to open, did some skits, and played
“spa.” Everyone got a chance to
get and give massages. It was fun.
I
am with my new friend, Rudolph, who came to the sleepover with Meghan.
December
25, 2005 -– I spent Christmas at Mrs. Sandy’s house.
They opened presents in the morning and had turkey and ham and all sorts
of other yummy things for dinner. We
sang karaoke, played games and watched the March of the Penguins movie.
We stayed up late and had a lot of fun.
December
31, 2005 -– It was a quiet New Year’s Eve.
We watched “March of the Penguins”, played cards and counted down to
the New Year by watching the celebrations in
January 2, 2006 –- We had a Girl Scout meeting tonight and sang
lots of songs and made the prettiest flowers out of tissue paper. We also had
time to dance the Macarena again.
I
am helping sing “The Ants Go Marching” song with Natalie and Kelsey.
January 6, 2006 – Some of the girls went skiing.
They left me to watch. A
couple of the girls decided that the lessons were really scary and didn’t ski
anymore. The rest of them LOVED it
after the very scary lessons. It
didn’t help that the temperature had been above freezing for a week.
The snow base was very hard when you fell and the snow ended very close
to the bottom of the hill, so if you couldn’t stop, it hurt to all the sudden
run into grass. They had 80 Girl
Scouts there that night from all over the area.
It was fun to watch!
This
is the badge earned for skiing.
Here
are all the girls who went skiing and one of the girl’s cousin’s who took
one of our leader’s place when she couldn’t come.
January 13 and 14, 2006 – We all went to an overnight sponsored by
a local town’s public museum. It was at a nature center that used to be a Girl
Scout camp. We earned 3 badges –
Pet Care, Art in the Home and Camera Shots.
It was very fun!
Here are the badges we earned:

They brought a dog that did lots of tricks and each girl got
to give him commands.
They brought a cat that had been abandoned for the girls to
pet!

The Wolves won!

During
the beginning of March, I helped the girls sell cookies at a local Jewel grocery
store, a Culver’s restaurant and the Huntley Business Expo.
The troop sold over 1200 boxes of cookies by taking orders and about 300
boxes at these sales!

27, 2006 – The girls helped with Arbor Day.
All third graders in their school district get a tree seedling on Arbor
Day. We helped wrap the roots or red
maple trees in wet paper and put them in bags with instructions as to how to
plant them.
Here

to plant trees for Arbor Day).

June
2-3, 2006 – We had our end of the year sleepover.
Mrs. Sandy is not sure what happened to the pictures from this.
We made Soil-Sam’s putting grass seed and dirt into a lady’s knee
high stocking and decorated a baby food jar to look like our dad’s.
It is very fun to see our “Soil Dad’s” sprout hair.
The girl’s will be giving them to their dad’s on Father’s Day.

There were
lots of sleepovers during the summer, so I often had Girl Scout company!
I had a lot of fun, but I am glad that I get to go home.
Troop 1297
is getting ready to start a new year as I go home.
They have 12 girls in their troop this year.
They are only meeting 1 night a month and at least 1 fun activity a
month.
September
19, 2006 – I was at the Troop’s first meeting of the year where they planned
their many fun activities for the year.
Here I am
with 11 of the 12 girls who are in Troop 1297 Girl Scouts this year.
I can’t
wait to get home and show my own girls all the things that we did.
I had a great time!
Thank you
Girl Guides, for allowing us to share our year with you.
