History
Designed while BMW owned the Land Rover company but not available until after Ford bought the company.
It was officially launched in January 2002 known as L322; and built at the Solihull factory.
This vehicle is of monocoque construction and has a full-time 4-wheel drive system.
Standard features are ETC ABS with EBD and EBA DSC.
While still taking its styling cues from the original
Range Rover such as round headlights under a rectangular lens cover and castellations on the bonnet this new model takes comfort a lot further
with its cross-coupled independent airbag suspension system offering a very smooth ride.
Large air vents have appeared on the sides of the front wings providing engine bay cooling.
The V8 engine comes in different flavours, twin turbo, supercharged or naturally aspirated.
The transmission is a ZF unit with the BMW Step-tronic function, allowing automatic or manual shifting; the transfer case allows selection of low range without coming to a halt.
Hill Descent Control has been taken straight from the Discovery.
And for those less interested in the technical side, the refined interior has improved ergonomics, leather upholstery and climate control.
Hill Descent Control (HDC) is available on the top of the range models and cooled seats are available.
The latest addition, the
Range Rover Sport model boasts the most powerful engine to date the 4.2 V8 Supercharged.
This vehicle has been treated as a model in its own right.
