History
Also known as the Series III R6, the Stage One name is a reflection of Rover's management investment into the Landrover. The result of this investment was the creation of the flush front Landrover.

A leaf sprung 109" Series III was used as the base vehicle, the 1st cross member was moved forward, the 2nd Cross member removed, the cross member under the gearbox became removable and the cross member behind the transmission was cut away to accommodate the prop shaft. The front grille and the radiator were now moved forward, hence a flat front, the full-time 4WD system was kept.

The Stage One benefited from the development of its luxurious sister, by the incorporation of a Range Rover style diff with constant velocity joints.
