(The rather short and somewhat pointless story of)

Fred Basset

You may be thinking that Fred Basset, the famous cartoon character is not quite what you would call a holy figure. Well you would be wrong in that assumption.

Fred Basset was actually a real dog who led several brave crusades at the end of the nineteenth century in the name of New Age Christianity. He had with him a band of three hundred men, two hundred horses, a bottle of lizard kidneys and an eggplant.

He began his short yet important life in 1893, in the deep of the Belgian Congo. His parents were the pets of two New Age Christian Missionaries teaching the Pygmies the 'way'.

He remained in the Congo for the first three years of his life before setting out on his crusades. He was responsible for the burning of many communist cities (hurrah!) and led a life that inspired many other dogs and men.

His last great accomplishment was bringing down the vicious "Bubshub empire", which was terrorising the pacific with its restrictive communist ways.

He died during the first world war at tha age of twenty four. HIs last words were "Can anyone justify the colour beige?" Well, surely not.

Mmm, a poignant end to a great life.
