Before 1976, China’s government system was highly based on the communist ideas and system, which was introduce to China through Chairman Mao during 1930’s. Because of the common wealth system, of everyone having the same riches, equally shared, people that did not work still received the same amount of food/money as a person that worked really hard. When more people realized that they could live a work free life, China’s economy dropped sharply. However after 1980, Deng Xiao Ping introduced western concepts and ideas after he visited western countries (America, Canada, Britain, Australia etc.) and he compared lifestyles with China and saw that most of the communist countries around the globe are poor, so he decided to incorporate western economy concepts and ideas.

Even though China’s economy is stable, it is still considered a poor country compared to the West. Take for example: the average salary of a factory worker is about 300 RMB a month. This result in a lower living standard compared to Hong Kong, because they don’t have the economical strength of Hong Kong. However since China is such a big country, life styles vary from cities. Cities like Shanghi, Beijing, and Canton have living standards similar to Hong Kong. But most of China’s population are farmers and factory workers, and in the corporate ladder: low ranking job.

This was one of the factories we visited.  This factory
produces stain-less steel projects.

Unemployment is a major problem in China because, most of the government owned factories closed down because the factories went bankrupt. The reason is, bad quality products and bad administration, so quite a big amount of people are unemployed and further pulling down the economy of China. Fortunately, China joined the WTO (World Trade Origination) during November, 2001, and this attracted a lot of investors to China. This may help boost up China’s economy make new jobs and help solve the unemployment problem.

In the near future the 2008 Olympic Games will be hosted in Beijing, China, making it a tourist destination, helping the economy of China. New technological advancement can be found in big cities of China, like Shanghi. That’s why in the next decade, if China can achieve inside economy boost and technology standards the same as the West, it can make the citizens lives of The People’s Republic of China a more modern and higher living standards compared to now.
