Photos and comments from Roy
Nichols' family, friends and fans.
The Legendary Not everyone is aware of the broader history of this legendary guitar player. In 1953 he played on 6 of Lefty Frizzell's recordings. The information from those sessions can be found on Ben Collis' tribute site to Lefty, Lefty Frizzell: Honky Tonk Hero. According to a newspaper article he was also on Johnny Cash's song, "Tennessee Flat Top Box", a song recorded again later by Johnny's daughter Roseanne Cash. This same article indicated Roy also recorded with Tommy Collins as well as performing in Tommy's live shows. In 1959 Roy was with Wynn Stewart and did studio work with Wynn during Wynn's Challenge years. In 1963, Wynn had a great collection of musicians for 4 songs in the studio: Roy, Merle, Glen Campbell, Ralph Mooney, Peaches Price and George French. The songs were: "Slightly Used", "I Walked A Hundred Miles", "All At Once"and "I'm Not The Man I used To Be".
