More tunes in the new jungle section... go and see!

Heart of Gold ('97 remix)

This is the latest remix of the classic Heart of Gold. It features on the new UD Volume 6 album representing a slightly different style of happy hardcore. This is a brilliant remix. Although it doesn't play the same as the original (it's all just vocals over a fast beat), it has reworked tune samples and I love it...

Sunshine (exclusive acid mix)

Yes it's the acid version. Again featuring on UD Volume 6 and obviously representing acid hardcore in some way. It's actually quite good and there's a good warped sound towards the end of the sample. Again just playing the vocals you don't get the full effect of the original but this is still an excellent mix.

Devotion

Simple tune but nice. There's just a female voice followed up with a catchy tune and the lyrics keep on flowing. It starts to break out into a bit of jungle (briefly) showing the way in which happy hardcore is changing.

Cape Fear

Starts with a kind of eary synth with "cape fear" & "come out wherever you are" vocals... brilliant. I think this track is excellent and deserves a heartily 4 faces if ever I thought so...

Ever Lasting Love

Brilliant lyrics, brilliant voice & brilliant tune. This track has it all except that it doesn't sound original. It's all been done before but this is pulled off with style. A rare new 'true' happy track in the old style. Mixes well with Cape Fear (as seen in the sample).

Apollo 13 pt. 2

I have it on high authority that this is a lonely Arab shepherd calling to his sheep, using a broken bagpipe, or not perhaps...? You'll have to download the sample to see what I'm talking about because it's hard to describe.

Pretty Green Eyes

The shepherd (above) has acquired some windpipes and a good voice... this track features Junior (who also appeared on Paradise & Dreams).

United Dance Anthem - Force & Styles

This track's at the start of the UD Volume 5 and is the current UD anthem. It has some nice female vocals and a good back beat. Towards the end there's a good bit of pianoing and generally the song bounces along nicely.

On a Ragga Tip (remix) - SL2

Remix of a ragga song (surprise). Kinda rappy and it has a low dropping bass beat which sounds good if you've got low bass speakers. Builds up by the second bar and carries on with the male vocals. It's a bit repetitive but still a good tune. Top marks for working out what he's actually saying... a dayo, a dayo, a wacko day dayo...?

Paradise & Dreams - Force & Styles

Exclusive 12" mix - The start to this is excellent, it builds up and then breaks out into a windy, echoey atmosphere. The vocals start up (male) which sound pretty cool. I like this track a lot. There's also an excellent snippet in the background later on, you'll have to buy it and see!

Here I Am - Justin Time, Demo, Ham

Starts with some pretty nifty keyboards. Then the female vocal breaks in. She sounds excellent and there's an accompanying piano playing. It bounces along lovely and is pretty easy to mix with. Brilliant sounds later in the track.

Funfair (remix) - Force & Styles

This is already an established classic track. The remix version is slightly faster and has an overlaying choir voice (play the sample and see). There's also an extra piano added later which sounds EXCELLENT. This is without a doubt a classic track.

TechnoWonderland - Ravers Choice

AN ABSOLUTE CLASSIC! This is my favourite track of all time. It starts with a stompin female with a shadow children choir. The pianos are out of this world. I can't tell you enough so you'll have to download the samples. This mixes BRILLIANTLY with I Believe. Because it's so good I've included two samples, the first is the start, the second shows some of the pianos and the backbeats.

I Believe - DJ Stompy

Again another stompin tune. I gave this another 5 happy faces, as it's my second favourite tune. The start is the BEST I've ever heard but then it just bounces along by itself for a while. Eventually it livens up and there are some female vocals that are almost as good as the previous. This is without a doubt a classic track including amazing background snippets. Mixed with TechnoWonderland this makes for excellent listening. Sunshine eat your heart out!

Oxygen - DJ Vibes

Mixed on UD Volume 4 this classic track is full of weird background sounds and such like. I love it as it's kinda spacey. It's copied from a famous musician who created it using a laser machine. Sounds like it too. Classic status from the master DJ Vibes.

Rave's a Mystery - DJ Vibes

An original from the first Dreamscape Set mixed by DJ Vibes this is the first true happy hardcore track that I heard so I'm including it here. It's become a classic (I think so) and it still brings back old memories. A blast from the blast but still just hacking it today. The sample is taken from that golden beginning: Life is a mystery, everyone must stand alone, I here you call my name and it feels like... Ecstasy.

Groove Control - Vinylgroover

About three years ago when this record first surfaced it was such a landmark tune. The original way the salight acid noises rise to the foreground of the mix, the subtle crowd noises and those familiar Hectic records style stabs. It's just such a crime it was a b-side.

Feel Real Free - Dougal & Vibes

Another classic from the times of Vibes' "Rave's a Mystery". I also first heard this on the Dreamscape pack, with Dougal & Vibes playing Ass2Ass with MC Smiley, and I absolutely love it to bits. It was a legendary performance and a one in a lifetime set...this song brings back those happy memories.

Lyrics go "Feel Real Free everybody dream..aha everybody dream yeah" (I think)

Gonna Be Alright & Givin' It All I Got - Vibes & Wishdokta

(Happy Trax - DBMHPY9) - "Gonna Be Alright" has to be my fave all time happy hardcore choon. The breakbeats make it sound like an old style happy hardcore choon, but it was actually released in 1996!! Anyway, the choon kicks off with a nice mix of 4/4 beats and breakbeats, making it mixable but also great to start a set. The choon gets going and in comes a "back once again with the renegade master" sample, after a few bars incomes a synth break that gets everyone going, back come the beats for a full on stompin session and then "THE piano break" fabulously uplifting, but with no mention whatsoever that this is not hardcore, a vocal "It's gonna be...alright" repeated over the rolling piano and then "you'd better hold on.....STOP LOOKING" and back we go. Even though this is the start of the choon, no-one's dancing coz they've all died as they've been stomping so hard, when the record breaks from the vocals & piano, some deep twisted basslines come in to drive the people sitting down out of their seats After a few bars the whole thing is repeated again, giving you three helpings of b*stard synths and f*cky piano to drive you completely insane.

And now for the flip "Givin' It All I got" is a very uplifting choon, the main part is the piano with "ooh-oh-ohh-owooah baby...givin' it all I got, givin' it all I got" with massive strings and horny pianos. It's similar in structure to the flip of Raver's Choice 3, which is equally if not more fabulous. Stoormaa!
