Jungle music started out as hardcore breakbeat or "quarter breakbeat house" and moved to America in 1991. At that time jungle represented a unique approach to some old styles: roots (reggae) and electronic music.
It was often looked down upon and labelled as being too fast, too chattery, too mindless even! Three years later the mainstream media began to recognise the originators of jungle:
and so, so many others you realise that the underground cultures are the most important things in mainstream society, not only to question our opinions but also to introduce real new values.
As jungle progressed further it branched off into several different types of music such as
ragga, happy hardcore, drum & bass and artcore or innovative/intelligent (ambient, futuristic symphonies). From jazzy samples to industrial soundscapes producers from all over the world are listening to and making music with jungle influences.
JUNGLE SKY with the help of S.O.U.R. (SOUND OF THE UNDERGROUND RECORDS of London) produced the very first American jungle tune. The BASIC idea behind jungle is putting together a track that is 160 BPM (beats per minute) sounding mellow & laid back at the same time using deep bass lines and rollin' snare sounds.
I am proud of my involvement in the jungle scene (being a DJ). I am confident that jungle is one of the most artistically fertile musical forms in the underground today. It is real and surreal representing love between all people and as we reach the end of the millennium it may be a clue for everyone...
