A CAREER HOBBY

Melenia Gacanin has been playing the harp since the age of nine, under the instruction of Leda M. Pap-Nagy. She completed her Bachelor of Musical Arts at the University of Western Ontario under the pedagogy of Lori Gemmell. She began turning her hobby into a performance career playing in chamber ensembles at the Cleary International, The Capitol Theatre and Villa Nova Festival Theatre in Ontario, Canada.

Melenia Gacanin has debuted with the Windsor Symphony Orchestra, the International Symphony Orchestra and the Clarion Community Orchestra of Sarnia. During the summer of 2002 Melenia recorded with Ocean Records and released her first CD, Harp FX. Soon after she performed at the 8th World Harp Congress in Geneva, Switzerland. Melenia is a member of From the Harps Ensemble and has competed in the RCM Kiwanis Music Festival, taking several prizes.

Accompanying whistler Ed Agnew, Melenia has been heard across Canada with CBC Radio and has made several television appearances. Melenia has attended master classes with Judy Loman, Rita Costanzi and Heidi Krutzen. She has recorded on Sony's Juno award winning album Neverending White Lights. Recording with Artist Daniel Victor Melenia has worked with guest artists such as Jimmy Gnecco of Ours, Raine Maida of Our Lady Peace, Jon Foreman of Switchfoot and Scott Anderson of Finger Eleven.
