The Didcot to Upton Railway Path

Sustrans has completed a new path for walkers, cyclists and horse-riders along the disused railway between East Hagbourne and Upton, south of Didcot. The path provides a number of benefits to the local community, in particular:
  • a safe cycling route for school children in the villages along the path
  • an attractive leisure route from Didcot Parkway Station to the Ridgeway
  • an alternative commuter route to HIBC and Chilton
  • improved cycle access to Didcot and the station from the villages of East and West Hagbourne and Upton.

The new path was designed to provide access to wheelchairs and children's buggies to ensure that it is available for use by a wide range of users.

The route is also part of a regional route on the National Cycle Network (NCN) to Wantage via HIBC and the Icknield Way- signposted as Regional Route 44.

Artworks on the Upton railway path

The Sustrans 'Art and The Travelling Landscape' project has provided an array of impressive hand-crafted works, seats and sculptures strategically placed along the path. The sculptures are designed and made in English Green Oak by lead-artist Tim Norris and talented design students from Rycotewood Centre in Thame.
