There is a tendency to ignore the feet and doctors pay little attention
to "minor" things like aching feet, but they can cause a lot
of problem. When your feet hurt, you heart all over. It's a fact that
foot miseries have a way of 'Infecting' the whole person. Aching feet
can make it hard to feel anything but tense & irritated. Your posture
will be thrown out of line. And the more out of line your body is the
greater the stress & fatigue. When you are slumped over, your digestive
tract won't function well. You are likely to develop lower back problem,
knee problem. Most important perhaps, is the damage that bad feet can
inflict on your plans for a full, active life. It will make walking a
painful obligation rather than a pleasure.
Today in the world 80% of people suffer from foot pain/ache
at one time or other. It is the third most common medical complaint. Why
is the foot so vulnerable to ache & injury? For one thing, it is very
complex organ, a structure of 26 bones i.e. 12.5 of all the bones in the
entire body, 56 ligaments & 38 muscles. With each step you take, the
whole ensemble must shift & flex properly to carry your weight. There
is a lot that can go wrong. This complex structure takes a heavy dose
of wear & tear. By the time the average person is 35, his/ her feet
have carried him/ her some 45,000 miles normally.
When you walk, each step puts your entire weight on each
foot. Pushing forward, raising your heel as you step, you may concentrate
a force greater than your weight on a localized area. Like these thousands
of time you are beating the soles of your feet, the bones and the ligaments
hurt after a while. Being farthest from the heart, the feet generally
have the poorest circulation in the body and this diminishes with age,
which means that infection, inflammations are slow to heal. We ate the
first animals to walk up right on two feet and it's possible that our
feet are not built to bear as much weight as we give them. When we walked
on soft grass, there was no problem. But now we spent most of our time
on hard surfaces and our feet have to absorb a lot more shock. Experts
say, like many people, if you stay off your feet whenever possible, they
will become even more vulnerable for pains/ aches. A sedentary way of
life makes feet weak.
When you get to the bottom of many foot problems, what
you will find is a pair of shoes. Improper, ill fitting shoes cause major
foot, ankles & knee problems even your walking will be improper. Ill-designed
& ill fitting shoes can cause damage to muscles & joints. The
whole leg will be paining knee, ankle, foot & toe. 85% of foot problems
are with women who wear high heeled & tight foot wears while shoes
can be blamed for many foot problems. They can not be held accountable
for all. Many people have hereditary imbalance & they do not bear
weight evenly & properly. A difference in limb length or an injury
can produce foot & legs and persistent pain. Foot problems will affect
the knee, thigh, back & shoulder out of line.
If you are an active runner, jogger or tennis player,
incidentally, you should expect your share of foot pain. A minor injury
can cause major problems.
Intelligent foot care is particularly crucial for anyone
with diabetes, heart disease or arthritis, the more you walk the more
will maintain the circulation in your legs, so you can avoid knee, ankle
& toe pains, it is essential to recognize that your feet are not mere
decorations, but sensitive vital parts of your body deserving of good
care.
If your feet are actively giving you trouble then it is
advisable to see a professional and the earlier the better. Like many
medical problems, disorders of the feet respond best when treated early.
And many systemic diseases- diabetes, circulatory problems & rheumatoid
arthritis for example may show up first in the feet, so they provide an
early warning system to do the needful prevention. For better foot care
it is advisable to seek a unani herbal treatment than depend on synthetic
medicines.
