A

       Aragorn - Son of Arathorn and Gilraen, he is the heir to the thron of Gondor. He was raised by Elrond Halfelven in Rivendell. He fell in love with Elrond's daughter, Arwen, but Elrond would not permitt their marriage until Aragorn took his rightful place as King of Gondor. After the war of the ring he assumed the position as King of Gondor and took Arwen's hand in marriage.

       Arwen Evestar - The daughter of Elfrond Halfelven and Lady Celebrain, and beloved of Aragorn. She chooses to give up her immortality to marry Aragorn. She is said to resemble her foremother, Luthien Tinuvie.

       Balin - An old dwarf with a white beard and a scarlet hood. He is another of Bilbo's companions in 'The Hobbit'.

       Bilbo Baggins - Son of Bungo and Belladonna Baggins, Bilbo came to possess the one ring through pure luck. Gandalf had persuaded him to accompany Thorin and his companions to located and bring down the dragon Smaug. During his journeys he came apon the one ring and kept it for himself. After he returned he adopted his younger cousin, Frodo Baggins, and passed the ring onto him under Gandalf's insitence. Bilbo lived to be the oldest hobbit, being 131 when he passed over the sea.

       Boromir - He is the eldest son of the steward Denethor and Finduilas. He was chosen to represent the race of men in the Fellowship. Boromir tried to take the ring from Frodo, but later redeemed himself by defending Pippin and Merry from the Urak-hai. He was killed and the two hobbits were captured.

       Dwalin - One of the dwarves in 'The Hobbit', he has a blue beard tucked into a golden belt. He has very bright eyes and wears a dark green hood.

       Elrohir

       Elrond - Born to Eärendil the Mariner and Elwing the White. Due to his heritage Elrond was given the choice of the half-elven, to live a mortal human, or an immortal elf. He chose to be an elf, and be came the lord of Rivendell. His brother Elros chose to be mortal. He married Celebrian and has three children, Elrohir, Elladan, and Arwen. He is the bearer of Vilya, one of the elven rings.

       Elwing

       Éomir - Son of Éomund and Thßodwyn, and sister of Éowyn. He and his siter were taken in by Thßoden after their parents died. After fighting a band of Urak-hai with his men, he came across Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli. He loaned them the horses, Hasufel and Arod, to aid them in their search of Merry and Pippin. Before Thßoden died he named Éomer as the new King of Rohan.

       Éowyn - Daughter of Éomund, chief Marshal of the Mark, and Thßodwyn, sister of Thßoden. Éowyn and her brother were taken care of by Thßoden. At the battle of the Pelennor Fields, Éowyn slew the Witch-King.


F

       Faramir - Second son of Denethor, steward of Gondor. From an early age Faramir respected Gandalf. He encounters Frodo and Sam and lets them continue their journey in peace. He is injured by a Southron arrow in the battle of Pelennor Fields. He is healed by Aragorn in the House of Healing, and it is here that he meets Eowyn and falls in love with her.

       Fili - Blue hood, yellow beard and silver belt. He and Kili are often together. Another one of Bilbo's companions.

       Frodo Baggins - The Ringbearer. He was left the one ring by his Uncle Bilbo. He is part of the Fellowship along with three other hobbits Sam, Merry, and Pippin, two men Aragorn and Boromir, the elf Legolas, the dwarf Gimli, and his mentor, the old wizard Gandalf.

       Galadriel - 

       Gandalf - One of the Istari, or wizards of Middle Earth. He sends Bilbo Baggins on the quest with Thorin Oakenshield to recover treasure from the dragon Smaug. Gandalf suspected that the ring Bilbo found during his adventures was the one ring. The ring passed to Frodo Baggins, and Gandalf acted as his mentor. He fought against the Balrog in the mines of Moria, and he eventually defeated the Balrog. Gandalf passed into the shadow-lands, but he was sent back as Gandalf the White.

       Gil-galad

       Gimli - Son of Gloin, one of Bilbo's companions, he travels to Rivendell to seek information of what should be done about the Enemy who had been questioning the dwarves about the Shire and Bilbo. He was chosen as part of the Fellowship to represent the race of dwarves. He formed an unlikely friendship with the elf Legolas, and travelled over the seas to the undying lands.

       Glofindel

       Gloin

       Goldberry - Daughter of the river, wife of Tom Bombadil. She is tall and slim, with long golden hair. She entertains Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin when they are taken to the house of Tom Bombadil.

       Tom Bombadil - Master of wood, water and hill. Tom Bombadil dons himself in an old battered hat with a long blue feather stuck in the band, long yellow boots, and a blue coat. He rescues Merry and Pippin from Old Man Willow.
