Frodo Baggins was born on September 22, TA 2968 to Drogo Baggins and Primula Brandybuck. When he was still young, both his parents were killed in a boating accident. He was originally taken in by his mother's family, but he was eventually adopted by Bilbo Baggins. Bilbo chose Frodo to be his heir, as Bilbo was childless. They share the same birthday, and at the beginning of LotR they are celebrating Bilbo's 11th birthday and Frodo's 33rd birthday.
After this Bilbo left for Rivendell, eager to travel again. He left everything to Frodo, including the One Ring which he had acquired in his journeys. Gandalf the Grey counselled Frodo to keep the Ring a secret, and it remained hidden until some years later when Gandalf realised that the ring was indeed the One Ring of the Dark Lord Sauron. Frodo fled the Shire with three of his friends, Sam, Merry and Pippin.
They made it to Rivendell where a council regarding the Ring was held. It was decided that the Ring was to be destroyed, to be cast into the fires of Mount Doom. Sam, Merry and Pippin go with Frodo, along with Gandalf the Grey, Aragorn, Boromir, Legolas and Gimli. Even as they leave Rivendell, Boromir son of Denethor convetted the Ring. Eventually Boromir tried to take the Ring off Frodo, so Frodo fled along with Sam. Together they set out towards Mordor with little guidance, and being trailed by Gollum, a previous owner of the Ring.
They caught Gollum and he became their guide to Mount Doom. When they reached the border of Mordor, Gollum betrayed the hobbits to Shelob, a giant spider. When Sam thought Frodo was dead he took the Ring to continue the quest, but returned it after rescuing his master from Orcs. When the weary travellers arrived at Mount Doom, the Ring at to stronger possession of Frodo, and he would not cast it into the fire. Gollum bit off Frodo's finger while fighting and fell into the fire.
When the hobbits returned to the Shire, Frodo played a major part in the Battle of Bywater in Hobbiton, but since his part was mainly to stop the hobbits from killing those who had joined Sharkey's men. Eventually he passed over the sea with the Elves.
In the movie Frodo is played by Elijah Wood.
