Warren Road(Harvey)
This road spans between 36 and Warrensburg Road outside of Delaware County, in the village of Warrensburg. I grew up a few miles south of Warren Road, and my best friend used to live there. His family still does; but as many times as I've been down that road (on bike, on foot, in a car, at night or in the daytime) I have never seen the ghost of Harvey.
Harvey was a Saint Bernard, and a mean one at that; think 'Cujo' and you almost have it. I remember getting chased while riding my 10-speed, more that a few times, and he never caught me. This dog used to walk up and down Warren, never straying too far from his home. His owners lived on Warren, on the inside of the curve.
Several rumors surrounded Harvey while he was alive; he:
Used to kill cats and dogs and his owner(s) would allegedly pick up the carcasses and put them in garbage bags and toss them at the edge of the woods across the road, next to the Scioto River, under the Warrensburg Bridge.
The foot path is completely grown over now, but I do remember seeing animal bodies bach there when I was a kid.
But think about it; many people hunted down there and on occasion pets would be run over. It's not that big of a stretch to believe that some people would toss animal remains in one spot; what is hard to believe is that the Harvey's owner would follow him and instead of preventing an attack, would instead cover it up.
He killed at least one child, but it could not be proven; the body was so shredded and mangled, the owner placed it in an unmarked grave in a field after it had been plowed.
. Next.
That's all that I can remember. I know this: He did exist; I have seen him and have been chased by him on my rickety old ten speed. But after he died almost 20 years ago, people have said that they've seen his ghost and he will still chase you.
Since I have never seen him as a ghost, I cannot confirm this.
One strange thing that always mystified me was that he only chased me while I was on bike. I must have walked to my friend's house more times that I've ridden there; why didn't he chase me when I walked? I know my little 90 lb. body would not have been able outrun him.
