Wiccan and Pagan Books

We receive many requests for good books about Wicca, paganism, and women's spirituality. The following books are recommended by Rev. Holly Goodwin. They contain excellent information and are suitable for seekers, beginners, and more experienced pagans. Everyone is entitled to find her own path. We do not evangelize! The opinions expressed here are purely personal. If you have a favorite title you would like to see here, please let us know. If you would like to review a book, CD, movie, etc., please e mail us.

For Seekers and Beginners

True Magick

True Magick: A Beginner's Guide

Amber K

This is an excellent book for the absolute beginner. I wish it had been available when I was starting out. The section on choosing a teacher is particularly valuable. Amber K is a High Priestess with strong ethics. She explains the Craft in clear, concise language. I recommend this book for anyone who is looking for a group; a teacher; or a spiritual path.

Drawing Down the Moon

Drawing Down the Moon

Margot Adler

This book presents a broad overview of neopaganism in America. Required reading in most Wicca 101 classes.

Wicca: A
Guide for the Solitary Pracitioner

Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner

Scott Cunningham

This book is extremely popular with younger Wiccans. Cunningham's books all follow a certain formula. They are easy to read and understand. While I have a few minor disagreements with him, they are more style than substance. I have tremendous respect for Cunningham as a witch and a writer. His books belong on every Wiccan and pagan's bookshelf.

The Spiral Dance

The Spiral Dance

Starhawk

A classic. People in the 70s formed successful covens armed only with a copy of the original Spiral Dance. It is a wonderful book for beginning serious magickal work. The meditations and exercises are excellent for individual and group use. Starhawk is a psychotherapist, and her work is influenced by the Inner Child movement. Some people feel her work is tainted with modern psychology. I am not among them. Favorite exercises for me include the Tree of Life and the Rainbow and the Pearl. If you only have one book on Wicca, this could be it.
