Cyber Grandma would like to take a few minutes to share some of her Christmas memories with you. I remember the time when the holidays filled the house with the scent of cinnamon and cloves, and we sat around the old wood kitchen table to carefully craft presents for our family and closest friends. Maybe be some of you do to.
I remember the holiday baking that was done ahead of time, cookies and breads to be used as presents. The jars of jellies, jams, and home preserved fruit that Mom had so carefully prepared was brought up from the cellar. With red bows tied on them, they now became Christmas gifts for loved ones.
As a child, the tree was never put up until all the children were in bed on Christmas Eve.
What a thrill to wake on Christmas morning to see the tree and find fresh fruit and some nuts in your stocking hanging on the fireplace. Most the time my mother had Christmas dinner at our house. All the relatives would arrive, Christmas greetings were exchanged. The men would all gather to sit and talk, the kids were off to play and the women went to finish preparing the meal. After dinner we were allowed to open our gifts. If it was a good year I might get a nice doll or a store bought tea set, but alot of times it consisted of gifts made by hand. I'll never forget the year I got my doll house as a child. It had to be the best dollhouse in the world. My grandmother hand made all the rugs and curtains in it. She crocheted little towels and a bath mat. I still have it and it still has that same magical effect on me. The love that went into that present is something I have never forgotten. By now you are probably thinking we were poor, but we wasn't. For we had all of this love to share with each other. You knew how much love went into each present you recieved and they all were special.
Those days are long gone. But even in today's hurried world, you can still take a few moments to show others how much you care. Take a few moments and call your Grandparents, or Mom and Dad tell them you are thinking of them. Add a little personal note in the Christmas card you are sending.
