At Tom'z Kitty Ranch, we are of divided opinion about how many kitties is the "right number". We'll let each kitty speak for themselves ...
Fluff says - I wuz the furstest kitty, and should be the only kitty! That way, there is more food for me! I've seen about 11 kitties come (and go) in the (is it really?) 10 years that I've owned Tom, and I snarled at all of them. Still, it iz kinda nice to have a buddy to lick the top of your head every now and then (but only when I want it).
Tiger Lily says - At least most of the rest of them stay inside. I escape daily to the OUTside and climb on the roof and sit in the sun. And I get the best spot to sleep on the bed, so the others (whoever they are) don't bother me too much.
Patches says - I like people more that cats. I only put up with the others because we all eat breakfast and dinner in the kitchen, and I have to be nice or I don't get fed. Good reason to be nice!! And I wish Mike would leave me alone so that I don't always have to sit in in a safe spot (like on the kitchen table).
Mike says - I just like to play, and I can't help it if Patches is so snooty that she won't play. I especially like the "ambush in the litter box" game!! Other than that, I like to snuggle with Tiger on the bed at night, an' I like most other kitty frens! Even Fluff!
Henry says - I like any one, just like my twin sister, Ruby! Just pet me or let me sit in your lap. Or throw the ball, and I'll play fetch! For hours. And hours. And hours. An' I wanted to taptype this note, but Tom kept tossing me off the keyboard!!
Ruby says - I like any one, just like my twin brother, Henry! And I can play "fetch the string" with almost all of them! An' I wanted to help Henry taptype this note, but Tom kept tossing me off the monitor!! I'd like more kitty frenz to play with, but then I might not get as much purrsonal attention. What a confusing problem!!
Raggle says - Most of the time I'm snoozing, but then I get the urge to chase somebody up the stairs, and I always find someone to "volunteer". Sometime Tom locks me in the bedroom, 'cuz I'm twice as big as the little guys, and sometimes I play too rough, and don't always know when to stop. It's nice that Tom brought home so many "play toys" for me. And with so many kitty food bowls in the kitchen, there are always "leftovers" for me to munch on!
Troll says - I'm bigger than Raggle, so he leaves me alone! And I have such a magnificent voice, which I use to loudly describe the goings on of the household (esp. late at night). I still swat at some of the kitties when they invade my "personal space" (I'm like the classic "troll hiding under the bridge", except it's under the stairs), but I must admit that I really like it when Ruby licks behind my ears! And since Selene came to live with us, I'm more friendly, and even sleep on the bed at night - I guess that I just want more attention!
Selene says - I'm the newest, and this is a cool house. I got locked up for a few days, but now I can roam the house, and I've met all the other kitties. There are lots of places to dash and hide, and sunny spots to snooze. As for the other kitties here, they've treated me not too bad. Fluff is snarly, Tiger is shy, Mike is OK, Patches is too bouncy, Henry and Ruby are great playfriends, Raggle is a BIG bundle of fur and fun, and Troll is just grumpy. I guess they are all used to being around other new kitties by now. Now move out of the way and let me sit on your lap!!
Tom says - Yeh, I have a herd of cats, and about as many as one person can give attention (and flea combs) to. 4 (former) boy cats and 5 (former) girl kitties. If I get any more (no plans), I'll have to get a bigger bed so we all fit (yes, I've had at least 8 sleeping on the bed at one time). So they must sorta get along.
I don't know what the "right number" of cats is. Mine are all indoor at night, 3 out during the day. I have a big house (about as many rooms as cats), and 6 litter boxes strategically placed so that there is NO EXCUSE for being "too far" from a litter box! If you'd like to know more about the cat "rules" (that is, the rules the cats set for me) in the house, send us a note.
Finally, all my kitties have been "adopted" from the street or local rescue organizations. All are fixed. I figure that I can always give kitties a better life in my house than on the street, or in the pound, or worse .... so that's why I have so many. For now, they are my family, and I've got to stop "dropping by" the "adopt-a-pet" shows, or I might end up with more!
