Grammar: Daily Grammar worksheets: parts of speech review; verbals; noun, adverb, adjective clauses; sentence variety; capitalization; punctuation
Creative Writing: Began work on several creative-writing projects throughout the year, including a 10-chapter (as yet uncompleted) novel.
Saxon - Advanced Mathematics: Work included advanced Geometry, beginning & advanced Trigonometry, pre-Calculus, and Conic Sections.
Beginning engineering: the types and fundamentals of engineering; PBS Building Big program (bridges, domes, skyscrapers, dams and tunnels); the impact of engineering on our lives; how & why engineers research, design, analyze, develop and test.
Project: Researched, designed & built a space lab (Sims Design & Legos).
Renaissance and Reformation: (Western Europe 1300-1550) Course included: famous artists and their works; writers; inventions; reform in the church and the leaders during this time of great change.
Civics: Focused on the U.S. elections of the past year. Subjects included: the electoral process; the president, vice president & cabinet; state & local representatives; the Supreme Court and the rights and responsibilities of a citizen. -- We continued discussion of current events and local news.
Virginian History: Field trip to Colonial Williamsburg, Ft. Monroe, Pamunkey Indian Reservation, Lee's Mill Battlesite, and Dam #1
Latina Christiana I: Beginning Latin: introduction to Latin vocabulary, grammar, translation; recitation; phrases; and proper pronunciation.
American Sign Language: Kevin is learning the ASL signs to some of the songs sung in the 2 year-old nursery at church.
Music: Continued participation in church and Youth Group music activities. Also started self-taught course on the piano, using several resources. Final piece is Sonatina by Muzio Clementi
Family Fitness Program: Outdoor activities; swimming (laps and free swim); hiking and walking. Continued participation in youth-group gym/sports activities such as indoor soccer, rollerblading, bowling, etc.
Health: Continued emphasis on health and safety rules in areas such as: pool safety; nutrition; household, workshop and kitchen safety.
Fire Safety: Discussed fire safety & prevention; family escape plans; household alarm & smoke detector checks.
Cooking: Learned how to cook basic, easy foods (eggs, soups, grilled sandwiches) and progressed to more complex meals (current favorite is Beef Stroganoff)
Journalism: Kevin wrote several articles, both computer and print, on current events, including a final report on George W. Bush's first 100 days.
Kevin is creating his own RPG (Role Playing Game) on the computer, which includes writing a story-line, creating playable and non-playable characters, mapping the game-world, programming required events and variables.
Kevin is a staff member (Editor & Technical Support) of the "RPG-Fox" computer RPG-making group (http://evc.to/rpg-fox)
Kevin is a weekly helper in the church child-care nursery, mainly working in the 2 year-old room

Composition: Writing strands program (level 6 & 7). Creative writing. Assigned social studies/science reports & papers
Key To series: Algebra (books 6-9) and Geometry (books 6 & 7). Algebra workbooks included integers, variables, equations, rational numbers, graphs, square roots and quadratic equations. Geometry workbooks included angles, perpendiculars and parallels, chords, tangents, circles, triangles, polygons.
Math in the Real World : Design and Art (used as a supplemental course)
Everyday Math: Continued using math skills in family activities such as comparison-shopping, cooking, time management, budgeting and home renovations.

Music: Erin continued her participation in church and Youth Group music activities, including a talent show performance . Erin was invited to join an all-age singing group ( Now Time Singers ) and performed in concerts throughout the year, including a small solo in a performance at the Bucks County Playhouse
As a family we listen to a wide selection of music & try some minor "dabbling" at the piano.
Art: Erin focused mainly on pencil sketching throughout the year. She enhanced a few sketches with color pencils and finished a self-portrait.

Fire Safety: Discussed family escape plans; alarm & smoke detector checks). We will finish a Red Cross CPR course which focuses on rescue for infants and children.
Sewing Erin learned the basics of sewing; helping mom with some "easy" projects like sewing a trim on a tablecloth, finishing a yoga mat, and then moved on to more difficult work, with her final project being an adorable pair of lounging pajamas (cool leopard print).
Other topics were: household and personal budgets, chores, cooking, help with minor home repairs and renovations.
Photography: Worked with various lighting, took indoor and outdoor shots, "informal" family pics, snowstorms, close-up flower studies and tons of pictures of the cats ! Learned how to use a non-automatic (35 mm) camera.
Erin renovated and updated her own computer website, doing the HTML coding without help. She is working on creating a new website with her friends from church.
Erin is a weekly helper in the church child-care nursery, mainly working in the 2 year-old room. She also helped in the 2 & 3 year-old nursery during summer Vacation Bible School.
Erin participated in the Community Outreach (12x12) project with the Senior High Youth Group at church, visiting nursing homes & helping with the children at a local women's shelter.
