Notes for Hopson Beebe
Hopson was a Captain during the Revolutionary War enlisting in Salisbury, CT.
He was one of the early settlers of Athens Cty, OH arriving in 1803 and
settled in Rome Twp. The area was later named Beebe Station after the Railroad
was built. Don Beebe of Calgary, Canada shows a child named Lydia who m. James
W. Peters but no reference is made to them in the Hopson Beebe Bible.
Notes for Deliverance Curtiss
Daughter of Azor and Margery (Andrus) Curtiss.
Notes for John (Child 1)
Michigan records say he died at age 44 so dates need to be proved. Some
researchers including Esther Miner show his birth date as 23 Sep 1780 which
may be incorrect. The Portrait and Biographical record of Allegan Cty, MI
concerning his son John lists the children shown except Lydia is replaced by
Maria so more research is needed to confirm the children. A Michael Whisman
indicated that he had a death date of 2 Oct 1820.
Notes for Polly (Child 2)
They lived in Rome Township, Athens Cty, OH.
Notes for Hannah (Child 3)
Unmarried.
Notes for Charles A. (Child 5)
Lived in Rome Twp, Athens, OH. Age 63, b. CT in the 1850 census
Notes for James (Child 6)
They lived in Rome Township, Athens Cty, OH. Susannah's obituary in the Beebe
Connection, Vol 13, No 3, 1989 says that she had eight children by James with
one dying young. A deed of Gift by James' brother Peter in Feb 1830 mentions
seven children but does not include Catherine below. Catherine is placed here
based on an article in the Athen Cty Family Histories, 1987 but based on her
birthdate in the Hopson Bible, she was born after his death and may be the
child of another Beebe.
Notes for William (Child 7)
A Physician in Belpre, Washington, OH.
Notes for Peter (Child 8)
Peter farmed extensively, raised stock and owned and operated a hotel and a
store in Stewart, Rome Twp, OH. He died of Cholera while returning home by
steamboat from a business trip to Pittsburg. He was removed from the boat at
Hockingport, Troy Twp, Athens Cty, OH. Because he died of a contagious disease
the law required burial immediately, so he was unable to be buried in the
family cemetery in Rome Twp. He was buried in the M.E. Church Cemetery at
Hockingport, OH. Cemetery record says he was born Ballston, NY.
