The Benjamin Farmer Family
6 Benjamin Farmer, the son of 5 Hezekiah and Elizabeth Cheatham Farmer, was born in the Skinquarter Section of Chesterfield Co., Va., September 13, 1783. He married Susan Goode October 15, 1807. She was born Dec 1, 1783, the daughter of Rev. John Goode and Sally Brown Goode.
John Goode was a Baptist Minister and farmer and lived in the Skinquarter Section of Chesterfield Co., Va. His residence, a two story frame building, was visited by the writer in 1943. It was a large frame building in good condition, owned and lived in by one of his descendants, Mr. J A Bass.
6 Benjamin Farmer and wife Susan moved to Kentucky in 1807 and settle in Franklin Co. He purchased land from Daniel Boone. On it he erected his pioneer cabin for the building of which the first trees of a virgin forest were felled by his own hands. Having cleared the land he operated a farm; later a country store and a post office named Farmdale was established on his property by his sons. All of 6 Benjamin and Susan Goode Farmer's children were born at Farmdale as were several descendants of succeeding generations. 6 Benjamin Farmer d. June 8, 1837; Susan Goode Farmer d. on "Presidential election day 1864" (6 Benjamin Farmer's family Bible) Both are buried at Farmdale. The following are their children:
