[648] "The name of Jacob Meges' father is uncertain, as the Menges family inYork County was numerous and there were several Jacobs living thereath the same time. The York County Historical Society, York, PA, havea special data report on the Menges family, and Prowell's History ofYork County, Vol. 2, contains some Menges history. It is quitepossible he may have been a son of Jacob Menges, taxed in 1783 on 120acres in Tyrone Township, in present Adams County, a few miles northof Gettysburg. There were six members of his family at that time."

[650] He was either born in 1778 or 1779. The records of Evergreen Cemetery,Gettysburg give his age as 58 years, 6 months, and 12 days. Records ofSt. James Lutheran Church give his age at death as 57 years, 6 monthsand 12 days.
