'Gloucester Village Populations' by Alicia C Percival, 1972, has for Cherington, Communicants in 1551 - 70, in 1603 - 100, in 1676 - 131, and in 1650 there are 30 families. If each house has an average of 2 adults, the Hearth figures of 41 houses appear to give a lower tally than Percival reports

Comments refer to '14 houses have 31 hearths' and '27 (houses) are poor'. This suggests the village contained about 41 houses. So 20 gain a new 'Master or Mistress' during the year between the two lists.

Thomas Cooke (3 hearths, 1671) seems to be replaced by John Cove (3 hearths, 1672)
