On a small slip of paper given to the author from his mother Leon Warren had written that George was raised by a Quaker family in Pennsylvania. However in speaking with Catherina Warren Lohstreter she recalls no knowledge of such tradition. George is presently the earliest Warren in the ancestry of the family known. All that can be said to date of his parents is that according to census records George had stated that both of his parents had been born in Pennsylvania. Seemingly George had moved around considerably during the early years of his marriage. The Warren Family Bible states that he was born in Philadelphia on the 4th of July 1822. The family bible records the marriage of George to Emily Cook in New Port, Kentucky in 1852. The year of marriage is also recorded in Emily's death certificate. The next place the family shows up is in Wayne County Ohio where they have two children. A girl dies at the age of 3mos. Jesse is born there in 1855. Two years later another child, Charles, is born in Lansing Michigan. The following is an excerpt from the Lawrence County Biographical published in 1910. The biography is on George W. Griggs who married George Warren's daughter Emma. "In 1885 he married Emma Warren who was born in Christy Township and was there reared and educated. She was the daughter of George W. Warren, a farmer of Christy Township, as well as a shoemaker and he followed the latter trade quite extensively. Mr. Warren was foreman of the shoemaking department of the Michigan Reform School for a number of years at Lansing, Mich." The death certificate of Emily states that they entered the state of Illinois in 1862 however the earliest record that can be found of George and family is the following deed for the purchase of a house in Hadley, Lawrence County, Illinois:is. Lawrence County Book of Deeds Book "N" Pages 5:16,517 This Indenture is made and entered into on the twentieth day of May A. D. one thousand eight hundred and sixty three between Peter Heale & his wife on the first part and George W. Warren on the second part all of Lawrence Co. and State of Illinois. Witness ettc that the said parties of the first part for and in the consideration of the sum of two hundred (200.00) dollars in hand paid by the parties of the second part the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged do, by presents grant, bargain, sell and convey and confirm unto the parties of the second part their heirs and assigners the following tract of Land situated and being in the County of Lawrence and State of Illinois, to wit one frame house and Lot No. nine (9) Block No six (6) in the town of Hadley, together with all the appertances and privilidges belonging thereto, to have and to hold the same his heirs and assigns forever. And consideration aforesaid the said Peter Heale and Elizabeth his wife for themselves and their Heirs, Executors, Administrators and assigns, covenant to and with the said parties of the second part his heirs and assigns that they being lawfully signed of and indefeasible estate in said premises that they have good right and proper authority to grant sell and convey the same and said premises are clear from all incumberance and that the said parties of the first part their heirs and assigns will forever warrant and defend the said premises to the parties of the second part their heirs and assigns forever: and the said Elizabeth Heale hereby forever relinquishes her right of Dower to said premises. In testimony whereof the said parties of the first part have unto set their hands and seals the date above written. Signed Seated and delivered in presence of Sophronia Jones Peter Heale Mary Pinkstaff Elizabeth Heale Filed May 22nd 1863 Recorded June 30th 1863 The family can be found in the 1870 and 1880 census the 1890 census was destroyed by fire so no information can be gotten from that. George finally settled down to a life of farming and remained in Lawrence County until he died. The Warren Family Bible has the following. George W. Warren died April 4th A.D. 1898. Aged 75 years 9 months. He being afflicted nearly 54 years with asthma accept 4 days before his death Acute Pneumonia set in finally terminating in His death. Excerpts from Death Certificate #35784 Emily died from acute bronchitis that had lasted for 20 days contributing was hypostatic pneumonia. She had been a housewife from 1852 to 1898 the date of husband George's death. She had lived in the state for 49 years. Undertaker was Staninger & Staninger Sumner, Illinois. Informant was Jesse Warren her son. The Warren Family Bible has the following: Emily E. Warren died November 11, 1911 aged 82 years 9 months 13 1/2 days. She was afflicted for several years with bronchitis and it combined with old age finally terminated in her death.

Lawrence County News Feb 6 1941 Retired Farmer Dead: Jesse J. Warren, 85, retired Christy Town Farmer, died at his home at 906 Jefferson street, Monday, evening, following an illness of several weeks. Mr. Warren moved to Lawrenceville from Sumner early last fall. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Enola Warren, and six sons. The sons are George, living at home; R.M. Warren, of Sterling Kansas; W.C. Warren, of Wichita Kansas; O.F. Warren, of Bridgeport; and M.J. Warren of Shoals Indiana. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Sumner Methodist church with Rev. T.A. Shaffer in charge. Burial was in the Sumner Cemetary.
