Generation One

1. George Washington¹ Hughes was born circa 1816 in North Carolina.¹ A marriage bond for he and Sarah Paschal, daughter of Mark Paschal and Sarah Burchett, was issued on October 23, 1839 in Orange County, North Carolina , Samuel Adams was the bondsman with Lewis B. Holt as 2nd Bondsman. The bond was attested by Mich. Holt.²^,³ He married Sarah Paschal, daughter of Mark Paschal and Sarah Burchett, on September 15, 1840 in Orange County, North Carolina; Sarah attested to this information in an affidavit filed with her "Application for Widows Pension." She further stated the marriage was performed by Joel M. BOONE, Justice of the Peace. On the 1840 U.S. Census Population Schedule for Orange County, North Carolina, there is a John BOON, Rev., listed on page 183 living just six entries after Samuel ADAMS who signed as bondsman on George and Sarah's marriage bond. Perhaps there is a relationship between these two BOON'S. Joel BOON is listed on page 180 of the same census. There was a Joel M. BOONE born about 1792 in NC who married Martha SINCLAIR 1816 Bath County, KY. They moved to Jackson, then Shelby Counties, Indiana where there children were born until about 1836. Joel is the son of Jonathan BOONE and Susannah NIXON BOONE. Sarah states in her affidavit that all records of the marriage were lost during the war as those records were burned.
⁴ He died on December 30, 1862 in Fayetteville, Washington County, Arkansas; he died of wounds received in the Civil War, Co. B 1st Ark. Reg. Cavalry Volunteers - Private in the Union Army.⁴^,⁵ He was buried in White House Cemetery, Arnett, Washington County, Arkansas.⁶^,⁵^,⁷.

+ 2 i. John G.² Hughes was born on August 1, 1840 in North Carolina, son of George Washington Hughes and Sarah Paschal. He married Susana Hanna, daughter of Jeremiah Cassidy Hanna and Mary A. B. Watson, on January 17, 1861 in Washington County, Arkansas.

+ 3 ii. Joseph Monroe Hughes was born on June 1, 1843 in North Carolina, son of George Washington Hughes and Sarah Paschal. He married Eliza Evaline Hutchins, daughter of Ellis Hutchins and Mary Shores, on October 26, 1865 in Middle Fork of the White River, White River, Washington County, Arkansas.

James Hughes was born on March 28, 1845 in North Carolina, son of George Washington Hughes and Sarah Paschal.⁴^,¹ He died on March 21, 1863 in Boston Mountain, Washington County, Arkansas , at age 17; "Killed Boston Mountain March 21, 1863".¹⁰ He died on March 22, 1863 in Boston Mountain, Washington County, Arkansas , at age 17; "Killed in action on Boston Mountain March 22, 1863".¹¹ He died on March 30, 1863 in Boston Mountain, Washington County, Arkansas , at age 18; "Killed by Rebels in Washington Co. Arka March 30-1863".¹² He was buried in White House Cemetery, Arnett, Washington County, Arkansas.
He began military service on June 23, 1862 in Washington County, Arkansas , Mustered in 10 July 1862 in Springfield, Missouri.¹³

5 iv. Sarah Frances Hughes was born in September, 1846 in Hawkins County, Tennessee , daughter of George Washington Hughes and Sarah Paschal.⁴^,¹⁴ She died on March 22, 1863 in Washington County, Arkansas , at age 16. She was buried in 1863 in White House Cemetery, Arnett, Washington County, Arkansas.

+ 6 v. Thomas H. Hughes was born on September 26, 1848 in Hawkins County, Tennessee , son of George Washington Hughes and Sarah Paschal. He married Caldonia Caroline Johnson, daughter of John Johnson and Eliza Holt, on November 3, 1867 in Washington County, Arkansas.

+ 7 vi. Daniel Hughes was born on September 7, 1850 in Hawkins County, Tennessee , son of George Washington Hughes and Sarah Paschal. He married Hannah Isabelle Williams on March 6, 1873 in Washington County, Arkansas.

+ 8 vii. Samuel Hughes was born on September 22, 1852 in Hawkins County, Tennessee , son of George Washington Hughes and Sarah Paschal. He married Abigale Paschal, daughter of Ezekiel Paschal and Mary Williams, on November 24, 1873 in Washington County, Arkansas.

+ 9 viii. Martha Elizabeth Hughes was born on March 3, 1854 in Missouri. She married Samuel A. Hanna, son of Jeremiah Cassidy Hanna and Mary A. B. Watson, after 1874.
