 Christopher Acklen was born in Frederick Co, Va.  Some of his decendants may have remained in Virginia, however, most migrated westward into Tennessee (Winchester) and Alabama (Huntsville).

14. Joseph Alexander Smith Acklen b. 7 Jun 1816, Huntsville, (Madison Co) AL, occupation Attorney - Plantation Mgr, m. 9 May 1849, in Nashville, Davidson Co, TN, Adelicia Hayes, b. 1817, Nashville, Davidson Co, TN, (daughter of Oliver Bliss Hayes and Sarah Clements Hightower) d. 1887, New York, NY.  Joseph died 11 Sep 1863, Angola Plant. W. Feliciana Parish, LA, buried: Nashville, Davidson Co, TN.  His death was the result of a carriage accident. Adelicia: Belmont Mansion in Nashville, TN was built by Adelicia and Col. Joe Acklen. After being widdowed during the civil war, she made millions by running cotton through the blockade.  Adelicia was entertained in the court of Queen Victoria, and by Emperor Napolean III of France. Adelicia was a Neice of U.S. President Rutherford B. Hayes and a very close friend of  Mrs. James K. Polk whith whom she resided during the Civil War's Union Forces Occupation of Nashville.

21. Oswald Franklin Acklen b. 6 Aug 1822, Winchester, (Franklin Co) TN, occupation Carpenter, m. Virginia Norris, b. ABT 1838, (daughter of Dr. George (De)Shields Norris and Martha Defriese) d. 1872, Winchester, (Franklin Co) TN.  Oswald died 15 Dec 1898, South Pittsburg, (Marion Co) TN.  He built the Episcopal Church in South Pittsburg TN Virginia: During the Civil war, U. S. Grant's troops marched through middle TN, confiscating everything the family owned and arresting Oswald Franklin Acklen.  Virginia Norris (Acklen) walked three miles behind enemy lines to confront Gen. Grant.  He gave her husband free passage and returned to her a milk cow.

35. Pauline Acklen b. 1859, m. James Lockett, b. 1948, d. 1943.  Pauline died 1931. 36. Charles Arthur Acklen b. 6 Dec 1857, Winchester, (Franklin Co) TN, occupation Blacksmith, m. 25 Oct 1896, in Jasper, Marion Co, TN, Lena Mae Howard, b. 1876, South Pittsburg, (Marion Co) TN, (daughter of ?? Howard and Nancy Newby) d. 30 May 1912, South Pittsburg, (Marion Co) TN, buried: Old City Cem. So. Pittsburg, TN.  Charles died 10 Jun 1920, South Pittsburg, (Marion Co) TN, buried: Old City Cem. So. Pittsburg, TN.  CHARLES ARTHUR  ACKLEN, came to South Pittsburg in 1882,  He was attracted to this section by the old Tennessee, Coal, Iron & Railway furnaces.  In 1905, he went with the Dixie Portland Cement company, now Penn-Dixie Cement Corporation.  He was a skilled workman and an expert in his line. "Uncle Charley" as he was familiarly known, left the walks of men on June 30, 1920, to join his life companion who went on before on May 30, 1912. Nine children were born into the Acklen home and only two survive.  These are Estelle, Now Mrs. William Linn, and Ambrose.  The later is general manager and owner oof Ambrose's Cash Market, member of the city commission and a very genteel citizen. Mr. Acklen was a loyal member of I.O.O.F. and Redmens Lodges.  He was one of the oldest members of the former order, if not a charter member. Mr. Acklen was a direct descendant of the Lee family of Virginia, and for this reason came of Southern Aristocracy.  He was also in the ascending line of parentage with the Norris family, noted the nation over for their distinguished position. Mr. Acklen was a first cousin of Col. Joe Acklen, of Nashville, noted for his abillity as a lawyer.  Col. Joe & his Wife Analicia built Belmont mansion in Nashville.
