Where do I begin?

I sometimes think that the Lord is like a fisherman. If you have chosen to believe; if you have declared your belief in Jesus; He will not let you stray too far for too long. It's as if He has a fishing pole and reels you in when you've gone too far astray.

Well, He recently reeled me back in.

Not only that; but, He also placed in front of me a means to make money--and to get healthy.

That seminar that I've been listening to is about the best nutritional supplements on the market. The most bioavailable supplements.

I've only taken a bit of the products so far and already I've seen results. For the first time in years, I can sleep at night without waking up every hour or two! I actually slept six hours straight the other night! Those who have never had sleeping problems probably won't understand what a thrill that was for me.

We almost had a tragedy here two days ago.

Bryan was at his locker, preparing to come home from school Tuesday afternoon, when a "friend" of his said, "Hey, Bryan!" and then shined the light of a laser pen in Bryan's eye for several seconds.

If you're unaware of how dangerous those little laser pointers are, let me tell you that Bryan was in extreme pain. His vision became very blurry. He had a severe headache that wouldn't go away. He tried to go to school the next day, but, couldn't make it through first period.

The school nurse called and after Delton picked Bryan up from school, he took Bryan to the doctor's. The laser actually scratched Bryan's eyes!

The "friend" will not be allowed to go back to school until the dean or principal has had a talk with his parents.

I sent a note to school with one of the kids today. Her homework assignment was to answer a lot of questions. Some of them I did not object to. But questions like: How much do you weigh? What is the name of one of your neighbors? What color is your bedroom? How many hours did you sleep last night? and others I found to be intrusive.

I reveal a lot of things in this online journal. BUT, they are things that I CHOOSE to talk about.

So, I asked the questions of the teacher and added the questions: Are you going to answer these questions? Why not? Do you find them intrusive? I do. I also told her that I thought the correct answer to several of the questions was, "It's none of your business." But, "my" child informed me that she would receive an F if she wrote that as an answer.

Why would I get so upset about a few questions that are asked by a teacher?

One reason is that these questions were copied from a workbook and the teacher didn't bother to make up the questions herself. Another is that it seems as though the schools and governments want to know everything about an individual. Big Brother is watching.

It's no big secret that we live in a five bedroom house and one of the bedrooms is used as a home office. But, what if that question were asked of a child who lived in a one bedroom apartment with a single parent and another child? What would the teacher do? Call social services? Have the living conditions checked out? Cause a loving family to become separated?

I'm sorry. But sometimes I feel that the questions posed to our children intrude too much into family life. I'm glad that we live in the United States. Call me paranoid, but, if this were any other country, I'd probably be really worried. If kids are taught to answer personal questions asked by teachers and authority figures on a routine basis, what's to prevent those authority figures from asking a child about his parent's political beliefs or other matters of a personal nature?
