1840 Perry County Kentucky Census--IMPORTANT ADVICE FOR USERS OF CENSUS RECORDS WHICH OTHER PEOPLE HAVE TRANSCRIBED (INCLUDING ME)...Do not believe that the person you seek is not in the record unless you see the actual copy of the census. Some of the writing in this and in many other censuses is subject to transcription error for a number of reasons. Names are spelled according to the census taker's whim. Combined that with poor penmanship and sometimes smeared ink, and the result can be mistakenly interpreted totally incorrectly by me, and others. If you see a name which you think is incorrect and may be your relative let me know and I'll check it against the Microfilm. I placed an asterisk behind names of which I was not 95% certain.

The numbers following the name of the head of household represent the number of residents in the home of within a specific age range. There were 13 separate age ranges for males and females. I typed zeroes as fillers, but if no additional older people were present in the house, I stopped typing with the oldest category.

The age ranges are: <5, 5-9, 10-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80-89, 90-99 and 100 and upwards.
