Will of Samuel Parrot, Perry Co, Ohio - Record of Wills, pg. 187
I Samuel Parrot of the County of Perry and State of Ohio being aged but of sound and [disposing?] mind and desirous of making a just and equitable distribution of my estate which it has pleased God to bless me with to be in force after my death do therefore hereby make and publish this my last will and testament [by names?] and [form?] following that is to say. Firstly - I will that my body shall be buried by Christian burial agreeably to the discretion of my Executor herein after named
Secondly - I will that all the funeral expenses and other expenses of the settlement of my estate and all my just debts legally due shall be first paid out of my personal estate
Thirdly - I give and bequeath to my wife Ellen Parrot one [cow?], one bed, bedsted and bedding, all her clothing and wearing apparel and set of knives and forks and set of common tea ware, one set common plates, one dutch oven, one cooking pot, one skillet and spinning wheel, one womans saddle and bridle and three windsor chairs provided these articles are in my possession at the time of my death and she is to take such as I may die possessed of as to the said articles and no other and to have her choice thereof . Also I will that my Executor shall pay to her $12.50 of the first money that shall come into his hands of my estate $12.50 at the end of six months next thereafter $12.50 at the of six months therafter and $12.50 at the end of six months thereafter.
Fourthly - I will that my Executor shall sell my home farm where I now live being about eighty acres of land situated in Section 14 in township 17 of Range 17 in the United States Chillicathe land district and in said Perry County at public sale immediately after my death after giving a reasonable notice to the highest and best bidder requiring one third of the puchase money in hands at the day of sale one third thereof in one year from the day of sale and one third thereof in two years from the day of sale with interest on the two later instalments from the day of sale and to make a [??] in fee simple to the purchaser on full payment or on security for all the payments to his the said Executor satisfaction being given also I will that he shall in like manner sell all my personal estate except what is by me specifically devised on a credit of nine months for all articles selling for over two dollars and for cash in hands for those selling for a less sum than two dollars
Fifthly - I will to my son George Parrot one hundred and forty eight dollars specifically to be paid to him on the sale of the said land
Sixthly - I will all my wearing apparel to my sons George and Philip to be divided between them as they may agree or to the survivor should either of them die before me. I will that after all my debts funeral and other necessary expenses in the settlement of my estate and the specific [by?][?][overpaid?] that one half of all the money occuring on the sales aforesaid or money received by my Executor on any other account shall be placed into the hands of my Executor and let to interest so long as my wife Ellen shall live and the interest thereof paid by said Executor to her annually
Seventhly - I will that the other half of the nett proceeds of my estate shall be equaly divided among all my children the grand children of each of my sons or daughters who may have died at the time of distribution to have one share that is to represent their parent and receive such part as would appertain to such parents if living but it is understood to be my will that Philip my son gets no part of my estate unless he releases all claims which he may hold against my estate and in case he does not so release the share that would otherwise fall to him shall be paid to the other children and grand children according to the ratio aforesaid
Eighthly - It is my will that after the death of my wife that the sum so placed in the hands of my said Executor as aforesaid and placed to interest shall be divided among my children and grand children as is provided in the preceding section of this will and upon the conditions therein specified
Ninthly - And lastly I do hereby appoint Joseph Linville my son in law my sole Executor to cause the provisions of this will to be fully executed. Hereby declaring this and no other to be my true last will and testament and hereby revoking and annulling all former and other wills by me made. In testamony whereof I have hereto set my hand and seal the Twenty second day of April A.D. Eighteen hundred and thirty five.
