I am searching for my great-grandparents, William and Della CURNETT. My grandmother was Daisy CURNETT, born about 1897. She had siblings but something happended to the family and they were all adopted out to different families from a childrens home. Grandmother would not talk about her past so we know nothing of our ancestors on her side of the family. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Joyce Bueter

I am researching Ross BIGGS and Nannie MORROW who settled in Holt County before 1876. Ross was from Crawford Co., IL and Nannie was from Indiana. Nannie's parents were probably James E. and Matilda MORROW who lived a few farms away in 1880. In 1880, James and Matilda had Virginia B. and William S. MORROW still living at home. Ross and Nannie had nine children during their marriage: Blanche, Richard Tilden (Till), Walter, Virgil, Myrtle, Charles Putnam, Fern, Lester and Carl. I would love to meet other BIGGS and MORROW researchers. Daniela Moneta
I am researching Charles Putnam BIGGS, the 4th or 5th son of Ross BIGGS and Nannie MORROW. Ross and Nannie settled in Holt County before 1876. They had nine children during their marriage: Blanche, Richard Tilden (Till), Walter, Virgil, Myrtle, Charles Putnam, Fern, Lester and Carl. (Information on some of these children have not been verified yet.) Charles Putnam BIGGS married Norma HARVEY probably before 1910. Charles and Norma appear on the 1910 census in Buchanan Co., St. Joseph, MO, living with Norma's parents, George Austin HARVEY (b. 1860 in IN) and Mary Rachel ANDERSON. In 1900, the HARVEYs lived in Holt Co. next door to the Charles (?) and Permelia ANDERSON family whom I believe to be the parents of Mary. George and Mary HARVEY had three other daughters besides Norma:Florence, Clara and Mabel. I am researching the BIGGS family for my cousin, Helen BIGGS HEWITT, who was born in Mound City in 1916. I have found some information on Helen's ancestors and would love to find more. Helen grew up in Mound City and moved to St. Joe to work. She was married in 1940 and moved to California. Does anyone remember Helen? I would love to correspond with anyone researching these families. Daniela Moneta

She married Philip SHAMBAUGH in 1845, therefore was not living with her parents when the 1850 census was taken. Very grateful for any help. Galen Brinson

My grandmother was born February 7, 1886 in Marysville, KS. As a small girl, she moved to Mound City, MO where she remained until after 1900. Alexander and Cora WILSON adopted her. The only name I know is Minnie WILSON, which would not be the surname at birth. She died October 10, 1966. I assumed, incorrectly, that the adoption of Minnie took place at birth, but there is no adoption record in Marysville, KS. My next assumption is that the adoption took place later in Mound City, MO. Alexander WILSON was born in Mound City about 1847 which further validates my assumption. I would like to obtain a copy of the adoption record if it is available. Does anyone know who to contact regarding the existence and availability of adoption records in Holt County. Any help appreciated. Gerald Shelly

Isaac Newton FILLMORE, born 13 May 1813 in Middletown, VT. His FILLMORE lineage is well documented in VT, MA and CT. He married in Holt County, MO, Elizabeth BOOTS/BOOT, 19 Nov 1846. Isaac bought property in Oregon, Holt County, as early as 10 Nov 1847. In 1850 he appears in the records as superintendent of the county jail. Also in 1850, he was appointed superintendent of the erection of a new courthouse. The children of Isaac and Elizabeth, all born in Oregon, were Leora, Adah, Mary Ann, Eliza Jane and George Bayless FILLMORE. By 12 Sep 1861 Isaac moved his family to White Cloud, Doniphan Co., KS.

My problem is Elizabeth BOOT/BOOTS, said to have been born in IN, 3 May 1819. The only family found in Holt Co. in the 1850 US Census who may have been related to her is that of Jerry BALDWIN, (0084b). In his household is a Phelps A. BOOT, age 30, born KY; Elizabeth BOOT, age 6, MO, and Jerry BOOT, age 4, MO. I assume that Phelps may be the daughter of Jerry and Elizabeth BALDWIN. Would like to find the name of her husband.

Elizabeth (BOOT/BOOTS) FILLMORE is said to have had a sister Mary, brothers Martin and Joseph. Joseph is said to have been a doctor. I would appreciate any information on BOOT/BOOTS and the BALDWINS. Thank you.

She may also have been married to Edward CARSON in 1868 in Andrew County. Sarah and Japeth had a son in 1876 in Holt County: Addley. About 1879 Sarah died in childbirth. I am researching my RICE family connection and have reached a dead-end with my great-great-grandfather in Holt County, MO. His name was George Samuel RICE, born about 1844 in Holt County, MO. His wife was Mary Ann CHANEY, also of Holt County. Their children were George Miles RICE, born in 1870 in Dallas Township, Bigelow, Holt County, MO; William RICE, born about 1872; and Mary RICE, born about 1874, both of Bigelow, Holt County, MO.

George Miles RICE married Julia Lorena GROGAN, and their son, Samuel Franklin RICE of Plattsburg, Clinton, MO, was my grandfather.

I have looked through the 1850 Holt County census, but cannot find anything that lists a George and Mary or Mary Ann RICE with children George, William and Mary. Is it possible they were not included in the census for that year? Or might they be listed on another census for another county?

I haven't been able to determine who George Samuel's parents are, either.

Any help with these items surely appreciated!

Does anyone have any information on the family of John ROBINSON, born in TN ca 1800, married Ann BROWN 1 Nov 1831 in Washington County, TN, may be called Jane, who was living in Holt County in 1860? This is, with reasonable certainty, John ROBINSON, son of James ROBINSON, of Washington County, TN. This James ROBINSON was the son of David and Susannah (HUNTER) ROBINSON and was born in Rockingham County, VA ca 1775-80.

It appears most of his siblings were living in Holt County or across the river in Richardson County, NE.

In 1860 the family consisted of:
John ROBINSON, age 50, born TN
Jane ROBINSON, age 49, born TN (Probably Ann Jane)
James C. ROBINSON, age 25, born TN (living nearby)
Mary (LAMIN) ROBINSON, age 24, born MO (wife of James)
Emeline ROBINSON, age 23, born KY
Josiah H. ROBINSON, age 16, born KY
Priscilla ROBINSON, age 14, born MO
Mark G. ROBINSON, age 11, born MO

They were not in the 1850 Holt County census. Where were they? They came to MO about 1845. If you are a descendant, I have your HUNTER ancestry back to Switzerland in the mid 1600's. Will gladly share. If you have information it would be most helpful. Thanks.

Hello, thanks so much for any help that you can provide. My GGGgrandfather was Mark CHESTER. His family lived in Benton Township, I think, around 1851. He died 16 Jan 1862. His youngest child, Annie R. CHESTER, died 23 Jan of the same year and his eldest son, Robert B. CHESTER, died 31 JAN, a little over one week later. The family story says that Robert B. CHESTER had returned from the Civil War ill, but I'd like to see if there is anything recorded in the newspapers or elsewhere from that time. They were all buried in the Caton cemetery. I'd appreciate any further information that could be provided. Thanks! Joanne Gappmayer
