Memphis Tennissee Oct the 21 1876
I received you letter Some time a go and was glad
to hear that all was well I can write the Same to you
I am well at presant and geting along very well I have
here in memphis about four weaks I went to school
some and stood on watch some at the peabody hotel
I have not made but verry little since I come here but
must spend some every day that comes bord is very
dear in this city higher than any place I know of four
dollars per day at the peabody but that is the cheapes
place for good bord but I get it cheaper than that I get
it for 25 dollars per month verry good bord. I cant tell
When I shall leave here it ma be in a short time and
maby not in twelve month if William Graham
folks wants to hear from him tell them that the
last account I had of him he was in alabama near
Bailery Springs and had got over his sickness when I
left the springs he wasent able to come to memphis
I heard from Bill the othr day he was all right. he has
money a coming to him some thirty dollars and he
cant leave till he gets it. I have been very lucky to
get all that was coming to me all the time so fere.

I havent no news to write at presant. We have not had
any rain in alonge time we had a little last
Sunday verry little the river is verry low lower
than it has been in a long time they are a grate lot
of cotton in the city at presant it is a bout twent
y cts per pound. I would lik to hear from home
the best ins the world tell me which horse died
and how many you keep tell dave to practice
writing so he can write to me any time. tell Betsy
that I saw a little girl about her size at the Springs
that could beat any thing a dansing that ever I saw
in mi life But I dont write this ? any examp
le tell the boys to be smart to work for I hase
done a sight of hard work since I lefte home. I havent
had but one or two days of sickness since i lefte home
Well I must come to a close it is nearly fifteen
Minuts after four and my watch is right i know
write to me whither you have heard from any
of our folks or not I would like to know
