![]() Well, the Sears family. Do you know how hard it is to find southern Sears? Let me tell you this is one family I have worked extremely hard on. In the summer of 1996 my mother gave me 21 letters written to my gg grandfather, William Washington Sears. They contained a wealth of information. For a while there I didn't think anyone was researching the Sears family of Moore Co, NC. But then I was told by someone that there were no Sears at all, ever, in Moore Co. Seemed strange, as the land has been in the Sears family since 1800! Oh well, guess I proved them wrong. Currently I'm working on finding William Sears' parents. Based on the letters, I was able to determine William's siblings - Barnabas and Elizabeth. Barnabas and Elizabeth moved to Autuaga Co, AL by 1821. According to the 1840 census of Autauga Co, there is a David Sears listed, but he doesn't appear again. Is this a brother or the father? There is a John Sears and wife Mary "Polly" Jones Sears mentioned as being the father in-law of Alexander K Sears, son of Barnabas. Alexander does not call John Sears 'uncle', so I am to gather that John was perhaps a first cousin of Alexander, as Alexander married 'his cousin'. Perhaps David was the father of John Sears, thus making David a brother? Is any of this making sense? It is known that there were several Sears families in NC; and trying to connect to one of them has proved exteremly difficult. The only thing I have to go on now is a naming pattern. And based on this I'm headed to Rowan County to see if there is any connection with Johannes Zaher (Sears). Johannes had at least 2 sons, John and Christian.
